Principal Radcliffe Morrill leads outdoor exercises at Concord High School as prize awards are announced for the class of 1950. Leonard Orkin wins Washington and Franklin Medal. Mason King earns Honorary Science Award. Harold Pratt takes American Legion Medal and Rotary Award. John Russell wins Rensselaer Medal. James McKenna earns Athletic Trophy. Diane Seavey receives D A R Good Citizenship Award.
Concord native George Camougis, Class of 1948 at Concord High, from 1 Main Street, tops his Tufts NROTC sophomore class. He earned the scholastic medal for highest standing after two years of training and was active in football with undefeated 1946 and 1947 teams.
Abel L. Peirson III delivered the valedictory at Holderness School for Boys 70th commencement in Holderness New Hampshire where 21 graduates were honored. Governor Sherman Adams spoke as guest. Peirson is son of A Lawrence Peirson Jr of Concord.
Concord and Carlisle will start a five year effort to perambulate their town boundaries beginning Saturday. The Concord-Carlisle line will be surveyed by selectmen. Later Concord will extend the task to Acton Bedford Lincoln Sudbury and other neighbors.
The 212 Club of West Concord hosted performances by Hunt Bros. and Eddy Bros. last Thursday. Both shows drew large crowds and generated much praise for entertainment, marking the second consecutive annual visit to Concord.
Concord area junior nurses aide course sponsored by the Girl Scouts will run June 26 to 28 at 7 30 p m in the Emerson Hospital nurses home classroom. Elizabeth Alexander leads, open to high school age girls in Concord and nearby towns, approved by the Junior League of Boston for local volunteer work. 14 graduates last year totaled 760 hours of service. Enroll by June 23 with Mrs Fabian Friedman at Concord 324.
G O P candidate Arthur W. Coolidge of Reading will speak at Concord Scout House tonight at 8 30 during an open meeting of the Concord Republican 21 Club. He is among several speakers and guests. the public is welcome.
West Concord youths William James Sheehan and Edward James Ahearn graduated at St. Mary's High School in Waltham. The exercises followed an all morning mass and a Communion breakfast. Sheehan earned a diploma in the boys academic division and served as senior class vice-president.
Concord board of selectmen alters summer schedule meeting only twice monthly on the first and third Mondays at 7 30 p m during July and August and closes the town office on Saturdays to handle business on other days of the week
A joint conference between civil authorities and the American Red Cross met at the State House in Boston last Thursday. Concord participants included Edward W. Sheehan, selectman, William G. Ryan, police chief, and Harold E. Ordendorff, Concord Red Cross executive secretary. The meeting reviewed government and Red Cross disaster responsibilities and urged pre planning to ready state civil defense groundwork.
Concord New traffic guides selected at Concord High School will serve next year. Named: Thomas Prendergast Ernest Smart Jr Walter Hoyt Betty Lips Ann Morrill Anne Knudsen Beverly Stoddard Helen McWalter Frank Gill Don Reed Barbara Cullen Judy Ingham Elizabeth Melloon Dean Comeau John Todd Nina Zumwalt Sally Mac Lea Edward Spellman. Substitutes: Barbara Kelly James Hart William Hayes Helen Graves Eleanor Buxton.
Concord selects Crescent road resident Edwin D. Brooks as a member for three years from July 1, 1950, to July 1, 1953. He serves as the men’s representative on the three member board.
More than 250 people from diverse backgrounds attended a public reception at Concord High School library for retiring teachers Maud and Minna Findeisen. The pair who began teaching in 1906 were honored with a purse over 600 dollars, presented by Morton R. Seavey. The event noted 44 years of service and planned June 30 retirement with music by Josephine Sheehan and Mary Walker.
Lieutenant Arthur O Leary of the Massachusetts State Police spoke at the Concord Rotary Club meeting at Howard Johnsons. William C Kirk introduced him and President Morton R Seavey presided over the luncheon. Attendance figures were reported and installation of new officers is set for July 6.
Concord firemen answered 97 alarms so far this year. During the first 12 days of June 19 alarms were reported.
