City officials in Acton settled the sergeant appointment dispute Tuesday night by naming David W. Scribner permanent sergeant pending civil service approval. He had been acting sergeant since Warren Birch left in May 1961 and top candidate Norman Roche failed to file form 17 in time. Scribner, Army veteran, eight years on the force, resides with wife Louise and two children at 32 Kingsley Road West Acton.
Boston Gov John A Volpe signed Chapter 667 of the Acts of 1962 changing the Acton Water District name to Water Supply District of Acton and expanding boundaries to the whole town. The bill is co sponsored by Rep Vernon R Fletcher and Rep John M Eaton Jr. Acton voters had endorsed the plan prior to filing. The signing date was July 16.
West Concord representatives from the fire marshal's office attended a session at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution Monday afternoon. Present were Thomas Tombeno of Concord and H Stuart MacGregor of Acton. Reformatory officials lamented missing Maynard Chief Philip A Wilson who was on vacation. The gathering aimed to improve fire suppression plans at the institution and prevent confusion with neighboring towns when alarmed.
