Acton named Robert C. Lape, a WBZ Boston radio news reporter announcer, as public relations chairman for the 1962 People Helping People campaign. Concord librarian Dorothy Nyren has been named a state lecturer in book selection by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Arthur H. Wetherbee of West Acton observed his 96th birthday at his Willow Street home. He enjoyed lunch with friends and received many visits and gifts. He remains active in gardening and is survived locally by two sisters Mrs Whitcomb and Miss Wetherbee and his granddaughter and husband Mr and Mrs Charles Sisson who live with him.
Police Chief Edward J. Collins Jr. resumed duties at the station on Monday after a two week vacation. Fire Chief H Stuart MacGregor began his vacation and he and his wife planned a two week stay at their camp in Lancaster.
NBC TV star Barry Sullivan co stars with Rock Hudson in the movie A Gathering of Eagles. The film features Sullivan alongside Hudson in a major screen production for NBC’s Tall Man era.
Maynard John F Gray will join The Enterprise as full time reporter and photographer. A Sudbury and Boston native, he comes from The Berkshire Eagle Pittsfield where he served two years in the Lee news bureau. Previously he was associate editor of The Brunswick Record. He is Suffolk University trained and married to Margaret Lillpopp of Shelburne Falls with two sons.
Concord police in cooperation with the Massachusetts Safety Officers League will sponsor a water safety program at Walden Pond on August 13. Demonstrations will include water safety, small boat safety, and rescue and survival swimming, with further details to be announced, says safety officer James F. Hanley.
The Concord area estimates show flags needed for Mill Dam area including Walden Street at about 550 dollars and for Thoreau Street business district at about 590 dollars.
The town will spray for mosquitoes on Saturday with a rain date of Monday if weather prevents the initial treatment.

Concord plans show Emerson Playground tennis courts to be completed by Tuesday with painting and layout about two weeks later and open by mid month. Sidewalks near Commonwealth Avenue Laws Brook Road and at Carter Furniture West Concord are underway. Sudbury Road from Thoreau Street to St Bernard's Cemetery sidewalk projects in progress. Boston and Maine Railroad notes delays into next year for Commonwealth Avenue cross over at West Concord with gates changing to automatic and track switches planned.
The Maynard dedication honors a new municipal building and library replacing the old town house. Speakers praise democracy, community effort, and ex officials’ roles as parade, colors, and a ribbon cutting mark the outdoor ceremony.
Mr and Mrs George A Craig and children from West Acton are preparing to fly tonight to Amsterdam Holland. Craig will spend a year in Europe as a Mitre Corporation employee and will be joined by his wife and six children James 15 John 14 Andrea 10 Elizabeth 6 and Christopher 2 They have lived in West Acton for three years.
Concord Adventuring With Christ theme guides this year’s Vacation Bible school at Evangelical Free Church. Sessions run Monday through Friday from August 13 to 24 for children ages four to twelve. for more information call Mrs. George Hodgson at CO 3-4061.
The White Pond area lots, recently foreclosed and redeemed, saw a town demolition of a house. On Monday the selectmen will meet with White Pond committee representatives to discuss urban renewal and better facilities for the area.
Concord Sixth Union Service Sunday morning at 9 30 a m at the Meetinghouse of First Parish with Union Church and Trinitarian Congregational members. Rev Arthur Boyer Jellis will preach with E Whittredge Clark as guest organist and Mrs Marjorie Schumacher as soloist.

A fifth anniversary mass for Rev James M Somers, former Nahant pastor who died in 1957, will be sung on August 4. he had previously served as a curate at Our Church.
