The Woman’s Club held an event at Mrs. Theodore’s home on Lowell Road. Mrs. Albert No gave a book review while Mrs. Worthley of Straw was chairman of the nature committee. Refreshments were served as the reading session closed.

Concord's Company H M N G 182nd Infantry and Regimental Team return home Saturday after a two week rugged training tour at Pine Camp New York. The unit trained with other 182nd elements under Lieutenant Paul Dee acting commander and were welcomed by Captain Donald A Linscott Jr in the camp’s final week. High praise came from Army dignitaries Lieutenant General Willis B Crittenberger First Army and Brigadier General William Rose Massachusetts National Guard. Commanded by Colonel Otis M Whitney governor's council member residing on Elm Street.
Concord youths and County 4-H members plan a fair at Groton Fair Grounds on August 24 and 25 with numerous exhibits. Weston Thayer of Groton is general chairman. Winners advance to the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield.
Concord council No. 287 Knights of Columbus plans its summer outing Sunday August 5 starting 1 p m at Middlesex School grounds Lowell road. Committee led by Chancellor John J Sheehan Jr includes Grand Knight Hugh E Kilmartin Past Grand Knight Martin J Diskin and others. Activities include baseball softball volleyball horseshoes racing and more with prizes for winners and a buffet supper at 5 30 p m. If rain, events move indoors to Monument Hall K of C rooms.
A Lincoln Mohawk baseball fundraiser will sell home cooked food at Lincoln Tower Hall in Concord Saturday from 2 to 4 pm. The proceeds support Concord youths on the team with a committee led by Mrs. William C. Holmes Miss Julie Campabasso Miss Mary Davis David Todd Mrs Eveleth Todd and Mrs Ethan A Murphy.
Four busloads of soldiers from Fort Devens visited Concord on Tuesday afternoon. Local guides and residents arranged a town tour organized by Miss Elizabeth F. Brennan of the Selectmen's office.
The next regular summer meeting of the Concord Board of Selectmen will be held at the Town House on Monday night August 8 with Chairman Franklin R. Johnson presiding.
Concord officer Maurice L. Dee of the 182nd Infantry completed a four months refresher course for infantry officers at Fort Benning Georgia. He was stationed with Captain Donald A. Linscott Sergeant John C. Dolan and Sergeant Phil B Dee his brother all local youths in training there.
About 35 Concord Lions Club members and guests enjoyed a second summer cookout at Gardner W. Lawrence camp off Monument Tuesday evening. Vice-President Lawrence S. Kendall organized the event with weenies and corn roast. Plans include another cookout at Ray Harris home in North Acton and a deep sea fishing trip next month. Guests included Charles R. Voigt, Robert Cull, Gardner W. Lawrence and others.
The Concord DeMolay Chapter will host a postponed corn roast next Saturday night July 28 at 7 p m. The event takes place at the Gardner Lawrence Camp off Monument street with committee chair James A Hart as master councillor leading the group.
The 26th annual Concord Red Cross swim program concludes Friday morning at Walden Pond with a public demonstration starting at 9:30. About 400 beginners from Concord Boxboro Bedford Lincoln and Carlisle will perform water ballet safety demonstrations and receive certificates amid promotions and acts. Officials John K. Spring Bernard Megin and Dorothy A. Robus lead the event with volunteers and mothers assisting.
Concord man Dukeshire sustained injuries after his car collided with a sedan driven by 17 year old Robert D McLaren of Arlington and carrying 17 year old Robert Doucette. All three were hospitalized and the youths held for observation. The crash near St Camillus church caused a one hour traffic jam as police investigated.
A Concord farmer Domenic Inferrera tends a protected eight to nine year old fig tree on Lexington road. He grows vegetables on a 20 acre plot including tomatoes and corn and starts about 1000 tomato plants mid May. Figs are harvested in September and the family preserves brown and white varieties in cellar trials. Inferrera shields the tree with a tin cap and dirt, keeps it dormant, and plans continued fig growing alongside his broader farming routine. He has farmed in Concord for 25 years.
Concord records show three local couples observing anniversaries this week. Austin D. MacRae of Ripley Hill Road and wife celebrate 42 years tomorrow, with MacRae a long time local businessman and family of six plus grandchildren. Rev. Edward P. Daniels and wife of Walden Street mark 36 years on Saturday with their children and grandchildren. Pierre D. Jean and wife of Frances Street note 45 years on Saturday with quiet family observance.
Concord town clerk and Mrs. William H. Davis of Lincoln observed their 98th wedding anniversary yesterday. Mr. Davis serves as a tax collector and belongs to the local Musket squad, with years of service in town offices. They reside on Codman Road. son Philip A. Davis lives in Concord.
Emerson Hospital will complete reconstruction of older buildings by October first and open expanded facilities across two new wings, including a Harvey Wheeler Annex and an administrative west wing. The project eliminates wards by naming sections as wings with centralized nurses stations and a new visitor lobby, while a new records room will streamline emergency functions.
