James H. Dee Jr of Bedford Street, a WWII veteran and former Concord high school athlete, releases Colonial Concord A Study in Pen and Ink. The book features 20 hand drawn pen and ink scenes of local landmarks with brief historical notes, dedicated to his wife and three children.
The DeMolay Chapter says the corn roast planned for Saturday night is postponed and will be held July 28 at 7 oclock. The event takes place at the Gardner Lawrence camp off Monument Street, with James A Hart chairing the committee as master councillor.
At the Sachem Boy Scout camp in Antrim New Hampshire Paul Daly and George Lamonakis earned merit badges. George Lamonakis won a pro marksman award at the rifle range. Daly is son of Robert H Daly of Independence Road and Lamonakis is son of John Lamonakis of 5 Brooks Street.
Members of the Concord Rotary Club who attended the district assembly at the Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro included Charles R. Voigt, Benjamin F. Clark, A. Glynn Simm, and Frank B. Esau.
Mrs Richard Flannery of 5 Bedford Court Concord has passed the state board examinations for licensed nursing attendant. She trained at Emerson Hospital in Concord.
Concord’s Visiting Nurse Association thanks Elmina L. Snow of Emerson Hospital for gifts to its loan closet, including ice caps, collars, rubber rings, a bed, and more. The V N A operates independently since 1947 with offices in the old Concord High School building. Home visits cost $2.00, office visits $1.25, reduced by ability to pay. Monthly conferences occur at West Concord School and the old high school building.
Mrs Angelino Berticeli of 22 Davis Street Boston collapsed at Walden Pond while part of a swimming party. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Emerson Hospital. Investigators note heat as a factor. death listed as natural causes.
Concord attorney and Mrs. John Marshall Eaton Jr announce the birth of their first child, a son named Edward Hayden Eaton, born Tuesday morning July 17 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Grandparents are Frederic Gooding and John M. Eaton Sr of Concord, with great grandfather Edward C. Papin of Rye Beach NH.
Conecord Samuel M Hosmer formerly of Elm Street visits local relatives and friends with his wife and two daughters. they are on vacation from Casa Grande Arizona and will return to Arizona later in the month.
A 12 ton boulder with a bronze memorial slab was dedicated at Concords Monument Square honoring local World War II servicemen. The inscription reads In Memory of These Concord Men who gave their lives in the Second World War listing the fallen. Gen Omar N Bradley is quoted urging renewed dedication to defend independence.
Concord Red Cross Chapter reports volunteers logged 4390 hours in the year ending June 30. Stanton Garfield chaired volunteer services. Canteen 688 hours. gray ladies 2392. nurses aides 721. staff aides 1181. supplies procurement 162. Total includes administration and Bedford Veterans Hospital and bloodmobile visits.
West Concord Miss W. Ryan of 365 Main Street clerical assistant at Concord City Court remains at home ill. She hoped to return Monday and now hopes to be back next week.
Public reminders note today’s Red Cross bloodmobile visit at First Parish Church vestry from 1 to 7 pm. The third visit asks donors to give 125 and late arrivals may book at the church. If unable to donate today, plan for the final fall visit.
Concord Massachusetts announces Pierce granted leave from the Concord Municipal Light Plant after 40 years with the plant and 29 years as manager. Russell Eldridge of West Concord becomes assistant manager in charge until Pierce’s return. Thomas Byrne Jr. of Union Street resigns after nearly 20 years at the plant.
Robert J. English age 25 of Roxbury and fellow escapee Patrick V. Butler remain at large after breaking from the reformatory. English was seized in a South End room after police received an unidentified tip. Butler is still sought.
The Youth Fellowship will conduct the regular Sunday night gospel service at Evangelical Free Church on Long Street Sunday July 22 at 7 30 during Pastor Gunderson’s vacation. Other week services include Hour of Powers on Wednesday at 8 and a Youth Fellowship meeting Friday at 8. Rev Gunderson returns for July 29 services.

Also playing Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison with Steve Cochran David Brian. Fort Worth features Randolph Scott Phyllis Thaxter in Fort Worth and Monty Wooley with Thelma Ritter in As Young as You Feel. Trail of Robin Hood follows Tuesday and Wednesday in Technicolor.
Professor Walter G. Whitman of MIT, head of chemical engineering, was nominated by President Truman to chair the Defense Department's Research and Development Board. He succeeds William Webster and has worked with the Atomic Energy Commission and War Production Board. Whitman, a Winthrop native, has held key posts at MIT and Standard Oil and will reside with his family on Nashawtuc Road in Concord.
Concord Mr and Mrs Clark V Doty celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary on Sunday July 15 they wed July 15 1939 at Trinitarian Congregational Church Rev Wilfrid Herrick Bunker officiated They reside at 12 Laurel street have two children and Mr Doty runs a business in Concord.
Concord Rev Edward Perry Daniels of First Parish Church Lexington road will preach at the union Protestant service Sunday at 9 30 am on The Way. Music led by Mrs Harold F Adams. Participants include First Parish Trinitarian Congregational and West Concord Union. On July 29 the services move to Trinitarian.
Concord summer playground classes enter their fifth week at Emerson and Rideout playgrounds with high enrollment. Sponsored by the Concord Recreation Commission, programs run until August 17 with closing exercises. Activities include art crafts crafts contests and sports led by director Bernard E. Megin and supervisor Miriam C. Clark.
Concord Lions announce a Tuesday cookout at 6 30 with President Chine Wear presiding. A future summer outing is planned with the location to be announced later.
