Jamies A. Ogden of Brookline 46 stood in Concord district court before Associate Justice Pierre A Northrup to answer charges tied to the death of Edward Middleby 28 who was killed while atop a freight car. Ogden pleaded guilty to evading railroad fare and was fined 20 dollars with default commitment. Patrolman James J. Finan led the prosecution.
Miss Viola Case daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Case of Norwood marries Guy Norman Eines of Concord at Needham Baptist Church. The ceremony was performed by Rev Livingston Himes on Wednesday July 17 with only immediate relatives and friends present.
The Concord Young Republicans held their annual moonlight sail last Thursday with about 100 attendees. David Williams, president Rep Otis Whitney and Arthur W Parke led event details while guests and friends sailed in the evening along the Concord river.
The twi league saw Concord Herronville end the week with a second draw, as Depot 33 battled at Emerson Playground with Hayes and Dempsey delivering strong pitching. A Thursday win over Hubbardville put Depot near the top as East Quarter and Sleepy Hollow also tied 2-2, with upcoming cards listing Depot vs Sleepy Hollow, Hubbardville vs Herronville, and East Quarter vs Depot.
West Concord and Garnetts or Palmers could not field full teams last Wednesday. President George A. Pauer ruled the game a no contest at Ridcott diamond. Later Midway beat Ma cones 4 to 2 with Iank Strayton pitching and Joe De naro starred in both field and with two sed hits.
Rev. Witrid H. Bunker of Trinitarian Congregational Church Walden Street will depart for Berkeley to represent Concord Church as a delegate at the General Council of Congregational and Christian Churches. Also Rev. and Mrs. George Pyoird ee and former minister will represent their press interests at the event.
A funeral service was conducted today for John Ot Toston at the home of Mrs. Catherine Hoffman. A requiem mass and burial followed, with family members in attendance.
Concord State Police and officers responded to a Friday morning call from Littleton reporting a man dead from a gunshot wound. Joseph Horsman, 69, a Babcock farm hand, was found in his bedroom with a 12 gauge shotgun wound to the chest. Medical Examiner Dr. C Lawrence Clank of Acton ruled death due to suicide. One survivor remains, his sister Lina Hall of Ayer Village, Haverhill.
West Concord Girl Scouts form a Junior Red Cross unit and start relief sewing for refugee children. Members include Louise Bedford Addie Benson Helen Britt Kathleen Dee Flavia DeMars Marilyn Fitzpatrick Edith Fenton Ruth Gallagher Hisse Hanson Mildred Harmon Marion King Connie Rice Charlotte Rohan Norma Sweetland. Meetings held Thursdays 2 30 to 5 30 at 66 Central street home of Mrs Edgar A Rohan. August class meets at 16 Central street with Mrs Francis J Safford. Mrs Thomas J Webster of 12 Grant street oversees work.
More than two thousand people attended the Maynard United Co operative Society outing at Vose Playground. James H Powers of the Boston Globe spoke on the European crisis, with A N Rivers and Frank Altonen contributing. The Imatra Band led by Louis Koski performed, followed by comic events and the Beach Warmery One Kilometer race won by Thomas Taps Nevala. Huikari's orchestra provided Saturday night music.
Children five years old between January 1 and June 1 1940 may apply for first grade admission. Examinations will be held at the High School on August 14 and 15. Written applications must reach the Superintendent by August 9. Parents will be notified of the test date. July 11 1940.
Mass was celebrated at St Bridget's Church and burial followed in Clinton. Mrs. Sullivan is survived by a sister and four brothers.
The funeral of Mrs Mary DeLory nee Delo of Concord Road Lincoln was held Saturday with a requiem high mass at St Bernard Church Concord conducted by Rev Fr Walter de Quinlan. She died Thursday after a short illness born May 10 1869 in Sudbury. Survived by husband Joseph three brothers James Tulis Frank Tulis Michael Tulis. Burial in St Bernard Cemetery bearers from Lincoln and Stow.
The Otis M Whitney baseball club fell 5-2 to the Nortons of Worcester in a Marlboro state semi pro tournament game. Worcester had led 2-0 before Dave Todd's homer tied the score and Concord added three runs in the sixth as Nortons pitching by Bourell shut down the attackers.

Edward Mara 68 prominent Lexington banker and former Concord resident died at his home in Lexington after a brief illness. Born in Concord September 25, 1876, he moved to Lexington in 1900 and married Gertrude Dacey in 1907. Survived by two brothers, a sister, three sons, and two daughters. Funeral services held at St. Brigid’s Church Lexington with burial at West View Cemetery.
The Willow Rebekah lodge schedules its only meeting for August a week from next Monday night. Community notes mention many local residents traveling, visits, and a concert at Harvey Wheeler school grounds this Friday.

Refuge garments shipped by the Concord Chapter arrived at destination as Mrs. John Eaton leads the surgical dressings committee in Mrs. Godding's absence. The group met Tuesday and Wednesday at the Old High School. the final evening session was held Tuesday evening and no further evening meetings will be held for now.
Representative Aver Blasie of District and Senator Fitconeabe filed nomination papers for both Democrat and Republican nominations for Senator of the 5th Middlesex district. Joseph Casey also filed for both parties. A large number of papers for state county and district candidates were filed before the five o'clock deadline with certificates to be verified by Registrars of Voters. Later, candidates must file with the Secretary of State to appear on the September primary ballot. Drinkwine, clerk of the Board of Selectmen, announced his candidacy last Saturday and filed papers largely signed by local Democrats and others from nearby towns.
ConcordMr and Mrs Joseph Gregg announce the engagement of their daughter Barbara to Clifford Wallace Dow Jr son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Dow of Newton Highlands and Humarock Dow a graduate of Newton High School Deerfield Academy and attended Bates College There are no immediate plans for the wedding.
A birth was recorded at Faken hospital for a baby delivered to Pri Mene e. The report notes a Bos Sherry as the father and a Tom College half back as a possible relative or observer.
The 17th annual Red Cross swimming classes at Lake Walden concluded with a large meet featuring over 500 students from Concord Bedford and surrounding towns. Mrs. Rodney E. Pratt presented prizes funded by Walter Kim in memory of his father. Mrs Mary o A Green widow of Thomas A Green celebrated her 87th birthday quiet ly at her Bedford Street home on Monday. She was visited by many friends and relatives from Billerica throughout the day. Mrs Green was born in Burlington in 1868 of Revolutionary stock her grandfather Samuel Butters having fought at the Battle of Lexington. She served with the Green Cemetery Commission since 1893 and remains active in town affairs attending meetings and church regularly.
The funeral of John Moynihan 74 Waltham Street was held Friday after a requiem mass at St Bridget's Church attended by a large congregation. Burial was in the family lot at the parish cemetery. Moynihan, from an old prominent town family, was mourned by many townspeople who visited the home to pay last respects and express condolences. An abundance of flowers and mass cards reflected neighborly affection.
The Finnish Lutheran Church choir will entertain at the Finnish Camp on Punka Hari, West Moor d. The Poni Lutheran League plans a meeting at Miss Pauline Kochs Park Street home this Wednesday evening. A recent Lutheran League lawn party on Glendale Street drew a cheerful crowd with a roast and midway features for children.
A building identified as Maynard-A was struck by a blaze at a powder mill near midnight Sunday. The structure was completely destroyed according to officials, though no powder was involved in the incident.
