Joseph M Appleby longtime Concord businessman banker and civic leader died at his home after a long illness aged 77 He was born in St John New Brunswick and lived in Concord over 50 years He served as bank executive insurance agent and held many local offices including chairman of the Concord Board of Registrars and past president of the Concord Board of Trade His survivors include wife Blanche two daughters Faith and Helen and son Richard with grandchildren and siblings in St John.
Harry F. Wright, 71, a roomer at the Delaney home in West Concord, died after hanging himself Friday night. He was found by Mrs. Jessie Delaney, revived briefly, and taken to Emerson Hospital where he died at 5 a.m. The autopsy by Dr. Robinson cited hanging and depression. Wright, born December 27, 1882 in England, had recently resided locally and worked as a gardener and former butler. He is survived by a sister in London.

Concord couple Mr and Mrs Joseph Smith Richardson of Jaffrey NH announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Joan Dumaresq Richardson to Abbott Eastman Fay Jr son of Mr and Mrs Abbott E Fay of Scottsbluff Nebraska. Miss Richardson a graduate of Concord Academy Vassar College and Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing is a public health nurse in Colorado. Fay is pursuing a master's at Colorado State College of Education and is principal of an elementary school in Leadville Colorado. The couple plan a December wedding.
Gov Herter calls for a full report after seven inmates escaped from the Massachusetts Reformatory dormitory in Concord. Police captured five by Tuesday afternoon, including Francis Barry and Henry Eon before the mass escape was contained. two remain at large as the investigation widens into rampant drugs and liquor at the facility.
