Shrewsbury Light Dept Reports Profit and Tax Aid
The Shrewsbury municipal light department announced a net profit of 21291.31 for 1932, with total profit since inception at 166578.28. Seventeen thousand three hundred dollars were transferred to the town treasury, and new construction added 14220. Total plant cost stands at 247024, funded largely by profits rather than taxes. Manager Edward A. Logan says the department ranks among leading municipal light plants for profit and low lighting costs. He notes profits every year except 1913 and 1922, with plans to further reduce rates in the near term and return funds to the treasury to cut taxes.
