A Tuesday morning blaze swept Loewe's block on Nason street originat ing in W. W. Oliver's store. Firemen contained the flames after 45 minutes, leaving Oliver's shop a complete wreck with about 1.5 thousand dollars insured loss. Clothing shop next door also damaged by smoke. upper floors smoked and partially burned. total block damage estimated at 1500 dollars. The early church service alerted responders, preventing a larger disaster.
An alarm from Box 41 summoned the fire department to Nathan Street near Spectre's store on Nason Street shortly after 4 30 Monday afternoon. The blaze started when a lamp overturned in a room over the store and was quickly checked with hand extinguishers without water. damage was slight.
Richard Murphy of Maynard died suddenly at his boarding place Monday night at 9 from heart failure. A native of Ireland, he had lived in the west and then Maynard, where he was highly respected. He leaves one brother Cornelius of Maynard. Funeral Wednesday at St. Bridget's Church at 9 AM followed by burial in St. Bridget's Cemetery.
A general change in B. and M. passenger rates takes effect February 1. The Marlboro branch sees a change with most Marlboro to Boston tickets dropping by two to three cents. The Maynard to Boston fare becomes 47 cents and to Marlboro 22 cents.
