Coast Guard member Stuart Marshall spent weekend with relatives. stationed in Boston Harbor. James Taylor of Sudbury enrolled in Army Air Corps awaiting assignment.
Maynard Miss Helen Kielinen formerly of Maynard and Edwin Sears of Belmont wed Saturday evening at the Union Congregational Church parsonage. Rev Leonard Fowler officiated with Miss Jean Hulley of Boston as brides maid and John Smith of Belmont as best man. A reception followed at 122 Acton Street hosted by Mr and Mrs Franklin Stammers, a bride cousin.
Sudbury The Civilian Defense Committee trains men for air wardens readiness. Twenty‑eight volunteers organized by Maxwell P. Eaton took examinations after lectures by Mr Seeber of Wayland to qualify for duty in their district.
Sudbury Taxpayers Association members met in Lower Town Hall to discuss the warrant to be acted on at the March 4 town meeting. The finance committee faced many questions and stayed until midnight, with Rich ard F Piper replaced by Charles H Way. Directors were to meet again this week to decide on further actions.
Concord announces Captain Michael Mullaney of 25 Belknap Street retires after 42 years with the fire department effective Sunday March 1. Fire Chief Harry E. Tuttle elevates Cornelius A. MacWilliams of 217 Main Street to captain of ladder number one, with Gerald R. Dee and Earl Spinney named to call man roles. Ralph B. Peterson Jr. resigns to join the Merchant Marine.
Concord announces Bur leigh L. Pratt will chair the annual Salvation Army appeal in Concord and Julian W. Ballou will continue as campaign treasurer. The 1942 goal is $1,000 with sponsors including Leslie Anderson, Rev Wilfrid H. Bunker, Rev Edward P. Daniels, Joseph Dee, Mrs Elsie Derby, Robert Goodwin, Allan Kennedy, Samuel Kent, Hobart MacRae, Lions Club president Rothwell MacRae, and others.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Saville Kimball home in Arlington for Mrs Genia Houghtson Surette wife of Charles D Surette. She died February 20 and burial followed at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. Born December 14 1862 in Bolton she lived in Arlington Concord and Lexington NH. Her husband, retired St Pauls School cashier, survives with a son Charles D Jr and grandson William Gordon, both of Arlington.
Under Milo E Cushman direction the Dramatic Club presented a Washington Day play to junior high at a Friday assembly February 20 The production titled A Guide for George Washington was written by Lindsey Barber The cast included Waren Baxter Thomas Sturtevant James Wood and Margaret Lawrence
Doris Marie Regan Coult daughter of Mr and Mrs William Regan of Waltham became the bride of Dr John J Berger of West Concord at three o clock Sunday at the Concord Union church. Rev Kenneth R Teed officiated with Mrs Richard J Rice of East Haven as matron of honor and best man Mr Beattie. The reception followed at the bride’s parents home and the couple left for Florida after the ceremony to reside in West Concord where Dr Berger will practice medicine.
Mrs. Ora M Davis Crosby of Cambridge Turnpike Concord died last Friday at Emerson Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Worcester she would have been 81 in April. Survived by husband Edwin H Crosby two sons Edwin F Norman a granddaughter Alice Orr and two grandsons all of Concord. Funeral at Putnam Funeral Home Worcester conducted by Rev Wilfred H Bunker with burial in Hope Cemetery Worcester.
CHS basketball team led by Derek Bernie Megin finished their season with a 36 to 21 win over Townsend on February 20. It marked their 11th win against six losses. the March 4 Lexington game was cancelled by mutual agreement. Upcoming Burlington tournament and Townsend tournament loom next week.

The West Concord Parent-Teacher Association held a February meeting with a record crowd of 250 attending. A series of tableaux titled Living Pictures of Mother Goose was presented by West Concord school pupils, featuring a long list of student participants and actors, followed by a talk titled Straight Thinking by A Knowles of Northeastern University.
The blackout scheduled for Maynard on Thursday February 26 has been postponed by the Maynard Public Safety committee on orders from the Massachusetts Public Safety Committee. Herbert W. Martin, blackout warden, says arrangements will be made and a blackout will be ordered for Maynard at an early date.
The Concord Board of Trade will hold its March meeting Friday February 27 at 6 15 PM at Wrights tavern due to a town meeting. President Frank W McKellar will preside. Danforth W Comins Sr chairman of the town finance committee will present his annual pre town meeting talk on articles in the town warrant.
Maynard The local Tire Rationing Board will meet at the Town House Fridays of each week to act on applications for tires and to transact other business under its jurisdiction. Two tires of obsolete sizes were given to Mikko Neokalainen of 4 Chandler Street this past week.
Concord reports a seasonal demand for female help on farms from mid July through October as apples and produce peak, highlighting employment opportunities for girls in agricultural work.
Concord voters turnout was extremely light in the annual town election held Tuesday. Wisner Park won re election to the Municipal Light Board over Nelson A Horne while other officers were re elected without opposition. numerous town posts were filled by unopposed candidates.
The Concord Ye editor, a sports enthusiast, predicts the Yankees will win the coming World Series. He notes the Yanks have won five of the past six titles, with the Reds breaking the streak the one year they failed to win, and argues the Yankees are favored again as baseball season nears.
Mrs Isabelle Denniston widow of Thomas Denniston died suddenly Friday at her home 17 Lincoln street in Maynard. She was 70 born in Scotland and lived in town about fifty years. She leaves sons Walter R Denniston sewer commissioner of Maynard and Grant Denniston of Miami Florida a sister Mrs James Beattie of Maynard. Funeral services Sunday at Fowler Funeral Home were well attended with Rev Leonard W Fowler of Union Congregational Church officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery family lot.
The Sudbury gathering at Mrs. Arthur Howe’s home invited candidates for upcoming offices. Opponents were present to share their qualifications for the positions they sought, in a Tuesday afternoon event hosted by the Women’s Republican Club.
Washington's Birthday program given at a high school assembly in the auditorium. The program featured processional and recessional by the school orchestra, varied vocal numbers, solos, a saxophone piece, poetry, and a Wake Island reference. Music directed by Miss Eleanor Colburn.
Maynard and Mrs William O formerly of Glendale street were held Tuesday afternoon. Double funeral services at Twombly Funeral Home were conducted by Rev A Fulton with burial in Glenwood cemetery. The elderly couple, long residents of the ward, died within days of each other and were mourned by many neighbors and relatives.
Maynard Missie daughter of Mr and Mrs Hellawell of Maynard wed Detroit native Harwood in a noon ceremony attended by friends and relatives. The bride was given in marriage by her father with Mary Killion of Boston as maid of honor and Fred Hellawell as best man. A reception followed, many guests attended, and the couple planned a honeymoon in North Carolina before settling in town where the groom works and the bride is a high school graduate.
