The St Bernard’s parish C YC team defeated the B GC Independents 651 to 23 at Monument Hall to cap their 10th win of the season. A severe fire at the McManus bowling alleys and Minute-Man Chevrolet Garage on Thoreau Street in Concord caused extensive damage. The blaze, discovered by Jeanne M. Patterson, drew alarms and mutual aid from nearby towns, with losses updated to around sixty thousand dollars including the building, stock, and several vehicles. Several cars were damaged and the scene drew a large crowd while traffic was diverted.
The Concord Rotary Club at Colonial Inn last Thursday noon heard Mrs. Hugh Robinson speak on "Our Debt to China." Introduced by past president Eliot R. Howard, Robinson, wife of Dr. Robinson, missionary in China, recently returned to the Philippines with her children.

Middlesex School steamrolled St George s of Newport 8-1 at the Concord rink to rise to five wins this season. Captain Wally Trumbull tallied three goals in the opening period, with Aston Winsor and Ecker adding the rest. The team eyes two more games this week if weather allows, bringing record to five wins, two losses and one tie.

Concord nearly 602 members and guests attended the Get-Acquainted supper and entertainment sponsored by Concord Council Knights of Columbus at Monument hall. Speakers included Roger Walsh, Ralph F. Ward, Peter Bulkeley, Rev. Walter Quinlan, William J. Bulger Jr., Leo Mullin, Rev. George Mulcahy, Thomas McKenna, and William Ambrose. Dee concluded the program with reels.

Mr and Mrs Joseph Murray Appleby of 6 Devens Street announce the marriage of their daughter Helen Constance to Joseph Irving deCoste son of Mr and Mrs Norman deCoste of Waltham. Mrs deCoste, Mount Saint Mary Seminary Hooksett NH, Lesley School Cambridge, taught in Acton. Mr deCoste a graduate of Waltham High School. They will reside in Cambridge.
On February 20 at 2 o clock the women of Concord and nearby towns will gather at the Trinitarian Congregational church for World Day of Prayer. The union service, interdenominational, will focus on the Pacific, Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America with readings by local church women.
Concord High School indoor track team captured the class B championship at Boston Garden led by captain William Ambrose Jr and sophomore Thomas McKenna. They set records in the 1000 yard and 600 yard races while contributing to a 19 percent team total that secured the meet over Weymouth.
Funeral services for Virginia M. Dee, 13, daughter of Joseph H H Dee and the late Mrs Mary Dee, were held at the home of her brother Leo on Bedford Street with a high mass at St Bernard s Church. Interment followed at St Bernard s Cemetery honoring the deceased and noting surviving siblings and father.
At Peter Bulkeley School Concord Junior High, 74 of 120 pupils bought defense stamps and 81 are ready to run errands on bicycles. One student earned or is near completing First Aid for Boy Scout Merit Badge. Junior Red Cross Knitting Club and First Aid Club organized by Ming Minna Pindersen and Miss Mae Dennis. Boy Scouts provide ambulance and courier services in Concord and West Concord. Eighth graders appointed to lead second half year activities. Concord prepares for its annual town election on Tuesday February 24 with polls open from 12 noon to 7 30 pm precinct one at the Veterans Building precinct two at the Harvey Wheeler School. William A Uttrick and Kennan Damon are candidates for Selectman and Assessor for three years with Nelson A Horng seeking the three year municipal tax board seat replacing Wisner J Park.

Concord led by Paul Mohan ex high school captain scored 14 points to pace a 38-22 win over visiting St Patrick's Watertown at Monument Hall Sunday afternoon. In the prelims the junior Five lost to the Marlboro Conception five. Next travel to Hyde Park to face St Anne's after a Friday trip. AH Stars at the court.
Concord High School hoopsters earned two wins, beating Stoneham 45 23 on their court and defeating Needham 25 23. Hitt led with points in the Stoneham game while Maylakian added 16. The team also won in the second contest and tied late in the Hunt Memorial gym. The seconds won 22 19. Upcoming schedule includes home games versus Townsend and a trip to Lexington by March 4.
