A series of meetings and events fills Concord calendar. Alexander Standish speaks at the First Parish vestry on art experiences. Royal Arch chapter, Masonic Temple hosts February gathering. Rotary Club, Lions Club plan weekly meetings and a March dance. Acton High girls edge Concord High 28 27 in a close game.
At a recent Emerson Hospital Corporation meeting Harold Cabot of Ripley Hill road was elected president. Other officers named include Mrs Harris Fahne as vice president Ralph C Piper as treasurer Eliot R Howard as clerk and assistant treasurer Walter E Borden Raymond Emerson Miss Mary E Harrington and Mrs Walter K Shaw as board members.
The Concord district rally at Harvey Reed School auditorium brought together Troop E of Concord West with Troop 33 West and guests from Concord Lincoln. Hosts Lucien Milot and Edgar Rohan welcomed participants while Chester Duval, field scout executive of Sachem Council, spoke. Patrol contests were conducted as part of the event.
West Concord announces the engagement of Miss Josephine Claire Mahoney daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard F Mahoney 369 Main street to John Malvern Johnson son of Clarence N Johnson of Waltham. Johnson recently discharged from the U S Army after four and a half years of service in the European Theatre and holder of the Purple Heart. Mahoney attended Concord schools and has worked in Waltham with a spring wedding planned.
Mrs Perla Coles Lyon 73 mother of Doris P Boyd of Concord was remembered at a Church of the Redeemer service in Lexington Tuesday afternoon. Burial followed in Westview cemetery North Lexington. Widow of William Henry Lyon she had lived in the town 46 years and served as assistant and treasurer at a Levi bank. She leaves a son 14 grandchildren one great grand daughter and a sister.
Officer Maxwell Lawrence of 205 Main Street reports a workplace accident where a worker severed the left index finger at the first joint in the institution's carpentry shop. The man has returned to work but will not regain full use of his left hand for some time.
The depot clock atop Concord’s railway station on Thoreau Street is once again working after months of idleness. Commuters and riders hope this restoration proves permanent.
Flora ane Kinball Hampson 92 of 4 Central Street West Concord died last Thursday after noon at a local rest home after a long illness. Born in Rowsley she moved to Concord 65 years ago and would have turned 93 on April 1. Survived by no immediate family, she was active in local affairs. The funeral was held Friday afternoon with John Elmo Wallace of the Trinitarian church officiating. Burial followed in Sleepy Hollow cemetery.
Col A Standish spoke to about 70 Concord Lions and Rotary members at the Howard Johnson in West Concord. President Leon Moreau presided. Lester Whittemore announced guests and a cribbage tourney. Rev. Fitzimmons of Belmont will be guest speaker and the service men’s dance is set for Friday March 1.
Announcement from West Concord lists Miss Norma Sweetland daughter of Lt Col and Mrs Almon Sweetland Lynn formerly of West Concord and Robert Clark Hooper son of Mrs W H Hooper Grass Valley Cal. Miss Sweetland graduates Grass Valley High and Mount St Marys business school in California. Hooper also graduates Grass Valley High School attends Placer College Auburn Calif is a U S Navy veteran with 13 months overseas on the battleship Washington. No wedding date yet.
Mrs J Edward Donnellan, secretary of the General Alliance, was guest of the Woman's Parish at the vestry of the Finitarian church last Monday afternoon.
Committal services for Mrs Annie Heyn Webber were held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. The rites were conducted by Rev Leon S. Steele of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Waltham, with Charles H. Webber also mentioned in the service.
Mrs Elmer Lantz of Concord Wayland road was admitted to Cambridge hospital last week for an unspecified operation.
Lieut. Geraldine Cornell USNR married Frederick Mansier at the bride’s parents’ Concord home. The bride, a Boston UniversityMusic alumnus and former Ratburn public schools music supervisor, served with Waves starting May 1944. Best man was Ralph Verrill of Concord. The couple plan to reside in Concord after Wheeler’s discharge.

Committal services were held at St Bernard's cemetery last Monday for Mrs Caroline Delfino 58 of Lexington who died Thursday. She was a native of Italy and survived by her husband and six daughters.
The funeral for Ella M Adams of Sudbury Road Concord was held last Saturday at the Trinitarian Congregational Church with Rev Zohn Elmo Wallace officiating. Cremation followed and burial occurred in Searsmont. Adams born May 21 1853 in Kenduskeag Maine died February 13 at Emerson Hospital and leaves nephew Willard Hemenway and several other nephews and siblings.
Concorde Board of Registrars voided James H. Deacon's nomination for Recreation Commission three year term due to insufficient nominating names. He may still run. The sole contest is for the three year School Committee seat with M. Damon and Ysa J. Gowans as caucus nominees and Charles R. Cherington filing.
The funeral for Mrs Susie Elizabeth Bean Holt 54 widow of William Gould Holt was held after she died last Sunday while visiting relatives in Concord. A native of Pennsylvania she was born January 1890. She is survived by her son and several friends along with her husband.
