West Concord Massachusetts Court Our Lady Help of Christians C D A held an 18th birthday celebration at the Howard Johnson Colonial Room with about 100 attending a banquet and program. Fr Edmund C Sliney spoke on his years as a priest and Army chaplain and on missions in the South Pacific and Orient.
Concord area launches final fundraising appeal to sustain USO programs for troops overseas and wounded veterans in Army and Navy hospitals. President Eisenhower and Admiral Nimitz request support for one more year through 1947. Boston drive paused to not hamper Emerson Hospital Building Fund.
Frances Shed den of Duxbury and Brookline, mother of Dr William M. Shed den, former Concord and Boston physician now with the VA in Lake City Florida, died last Monday at her Brookline home. Her son flew from Florida. she also leaves daughter Helen of California. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Harvard Church Brookline, burial at Mount Auburn.
Concord-Sports reports Val Muscato aims for the National Schoolboy 440 yard title at Madison Square Garden New York with trials in the afternoon and the final at night. Local fans plan to travel, with his parents joining and coach Skip O Connor guiding the effort.
Plans are set for the Lions musical at Wells A. Hall Memorial Auditorium Concord High School next Thursday evening February 27 at 8 oclock. Tickets remain available through ticket chairman Lincoln T. Ravenscroft or general chairman Rothwell N. MacRae. Proceeds go to the Lions benefit fund with many star acts and radio performers to please.
Concord chapter of the American Red Cross appoints Frankis L. Coolidge as Campaign Chairman for the March 1 drive. A campaign committee is named with chairs in Concord West Concord Lincoln Acton Box Corp and Acton Box Corp members. The new leader reports high enrollment so far and announces the Concord goal.
Mrs. Mary Brennan of 31 Hubbard street, mother of Elizabeth Brennan secretary clerk of the Concord board of selectmen, is confined at Emerson Hospital recovering from a broken hip suffered in a recent fall at her home.
Concord readers anticipate a high turnout for the annual February 24 election with two contests for selectman and a school committee race. Precinct 1 votes at Veterans Building and Precinct 2 at Harvey Wheeler School West Concord from 12 noon to 7 30 p m. Last year’s total reached 1 601 about 40 percent of registered voters, the largest since 1940 when 2 007 votes were cast.
