In Ynard Feb 15 the chief reports a new permanent officer is needed to maintain regular service. The current squad lacks sufficient steady coverage, with officers on 48 hour stretches. Finance committee backs the plan and urges funding at the annual town meeting to employ an additional officer for better protection and enforcement.
February fire tears through the Morse Theatre in Reading destroying the building. A quick reaction by staff kept the audience safe as flames began under the floor balcony during a Friday weekend show.
Founders Day marked on February 15 by the Sudbury Teachers Association at Own Hall for its 31st anniversary. Mrs E W D Merrill, a former Sudbury school principal, spoke on youth and adolescence as guests and members gathered around a large birthday cake. Charles Brackett led refreshments as Norman dy presided.
Maynard voters produced a tie in the annual town officers contest led by Dr. Ku rn binherty and Frank Goettler both with 62 percent while Lena McCleary trailed with 47 percent. A recount is set for the school committee race. if no change a special election will be held. Thames Wright and Clark win on other town posts as 1721 of 2175 registered voters cast ballots.
Maynard Michael Long, former town resident, died in Louisville Kentucky during the week. Survived by sister Nellie Long of this town and brother James.
Maynard February 15 Ladies Auxiliary A O H entertained guests at the annual Guest Night in the Masonic hall Friday. Mrs James McCarthy president gave welcome remarks followed by selections readings dances and a sketch performed by members. Refreshments and social hour followed the program.
Concord February 15 unusually impressive initiation event at Hawthorne Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Masonic Temple. A two candidate class received rites as Worthy Matron Lad A Vary presided aided by Gardner W and a slate of officers including Florence Duren Helen Loring Slynie Forbes Charlotte Rodway Irene Dye Hattie Clark Z Kingman Sadie Hawley Grace Sallaway and others with Miss Margaret Ried as Adah. Social hour followed with refreshments.
The West Acton Woman's Club met at the clubhouse on Monday February 13. Miss Florence W. Burchard spoke on The Work of the Adult Blind in Massachusetts. Perkins Institute graduates contributed vocal and piano solos and the club chorus performed two numbers.
Concord Massachusetts February report: Concord High School boys form an independent boxing team to compete with Acton Lexington and nearby schools. Thirteen boys tried out at the State Armory with expectations of thirty or more by parent consent. Training scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays. manager Bernard Dee and several named boxers listed with weight classes.
Concord February 15 ill health limits attendance to one team at Concord Grange No. 150 Patrons of Husbandry Competitive Night. Mrs Sadie Wilson's team delivered a fine program with monologues by Mrs Mary King novelty numbers by Mrs Turner and Mrs King and songs by Benjamin Clark. Games and dancing added to the evening. The postponed portion will be presented in March with a Washington Birthday whist planned for February 21 meeting.
Concord High School topped Framingham High School 1 0 at Lerned's Pond Framingham to extend its winning streak to five or six games. Kennedy scored in the second period as Concord showcased a strong lineup and aggressive play led by standout defense and goaltending. Bob Asbjornson shone for the New Preparatory Ice Hockey Team, fueling momentum across teams.
