Lincoln tavern keeper in New Salem highlighted in 122nd anniversary notes

The Springfield paper recalls Abraham Lincoln as Berry and Lincoln’s tavern partner in New Salem. It notes the licensed rates for breakfast and meals and Lincoln eventually sold his share, a path toward his later rise to the White House. The piece places the tavern stint within Lincoln’s broader early career as a farm hand, rail splitter, river boatman, clerk, and lawyer.
