Acton Town Meeting Amends Fire Department By-Laws
In March 1948 voters amended Article 1 Section 5 to empower the Board of Engineers to appoint a clerk and to authorize a December budget submission for department maintenance. The new by law reorganizes the Fire Department with a Chief Engineer and three Assistant Engineers and three precinct-based companies of eighteen members each. It sets duties for engineers, captains, lieutenants, a clerk, and a treasurer, and outlines membership qualifications and meeting rules. The amendment, approved with deletions noted, was finalized in December 1950 after attorney review.
