Al Loftus, rushing back in, retrieved a child from a back room as a Lexington Road two family farmhouse burned. Thirteen occupants escaped in night attire as a barn with eleven cows and three horses burned. neighbors saved the cattle. Loftus sustained facial burns and head injuries but aided authorities, whose search recovered two Liberty bonds worth 600 dollars from under a carpet of debris.

Death claims Concord High School head Jaimnes O Halloran
Jaimnes Francis O Halloran head of Concord High School Commercial Department for nine years died Christmas morning at his home in Lexington from pneumonia. Born in Boston in 1886 he studied at South Boston High School Rochester Business Institute and taught penmanship in Syracuse Waterbury and Charlestown before leading Concord High School from 1916. He married Mary R Thoemmel in 1913 and is survived by three sons and his parents. He was active in Catholic and Lexington circles and his funeral was held at St Bridgets Church with burial in Westview Cemetery. His memory is honored by faculty and students for his devoted teaching and impact on many pupils.
