Wintery Concord Day Bites with Cold Elects Patrolman Starts Year

A frigid Concord day records ten below spots with 33 at the Enterprise. Patrolman Nolan begins his first year with the Concord Department on New Year’s Day. Mrs. Robert H. plans a Florida vacation January 3. Fire Dept. calls exceed last year. Sce ades opens at Ion Garden. Walter en named senior president of Shawmut Bank

At a five member committee meeting of Shawmut Bank Walter en was appointed senior president and general manager, acting as chief executive officer under President Walter Klin Borden. Borden was born in Goldsboro and educated at Goldsboro High School and the U S Naval Academy class of 1916, served 1912 to 1920, then entered engineering and built Caribbean Sugar Company in Cuba. He became president and treasurer of the company, and has been with Shawmut Bank since 1928, rising through ranks to senior vice president. He lives on Nashoba road in Concord.

GOP Club Banquet Set for January 18

The Young Republican club hosts its annual meeting and banquet on Thursday January 18 at 7 oclock. The event site and speaker are to be announced.

Dinner Dance Tickets Reserved for Knights of Columbus Event

Concord announces tickets for the Knights of Columbus dinner dance at the State Armory on Wednesday night January 10 must be reserved by Saturday January 6. Most Rev Richard J Cushing will speak on Catholic Schools for parishes in the area and discuss Pratt property at 50 52 Main Street. Ticket returns go to George S Lawton or Leon J Moreau. West Concord The Harvey Wheeler School Parent Teachers Association will meet Thursday January 14 at 8 p m in the school auditorium. President Robert E Sheehan will chair the business session. Second Year Candle Burns On Christmas

West Concord Union Church marked the second year of lighting the large white Christmas Candle during morning worship on December 24. The candle, made from candles used in worship over the past decade, was lit by Senior Deacon Warren E. Goddard as Rev. Edwin B. Nylen led the ritual. The candle will burn on Christmas Sundays for the next fifty years, flanked by two sterling silver candelabras donated by the Ladies Union in memory of Mrs. Mary Redfern.

Defendant Skips Drunken Driving Trial for Jail Time

Emerson Hospital Aid Society Hosts Annual Christmas Party

Last Thursday night the Nurses Home at Emerson Hospital hosted a Christmas party organized by the Emerson Hospital Aid Society. Committee members included Mrs. Stephen P. Baldwin chair, with Mr. and Mrs. MacPherson Ac ton, Mr. and Mrs. Brengle, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Hoar, Mr. Alden French, Rev. and Mrs. Bradford Hastings, and assisting nurses Misses Noel, Vinson, Brayden, Enon, Hunt, Bryson. A large tree donated by Clark's Nursery stood as nurses decorated it and Christmas presents were placed beneath. Carols led by Mrs. MacPherson accompanied by piano, refreshments followed with sandwiches, eggnogs, ice cream, cake and coffee provided through Selectman Edwin W. Sheehan’s efforts.

Schools Resume Classes Tuesday After Holiday Break

Concord public schools including the high school Harvey Wheeler and Peter Bulkeley will resume classes Tuesday morning January 2 at their usual times. The schools closed since Friday December 22 for the annual holiday vacation.

Concord announces the annual street listing of all residents 20 years and over in Concord and West Concord begins Tuesday January 2. Concord Christmas Parties With Santa Visit

The town held two Santa visits last Friday afternoon. About 250 youths gathered at the Harvey Wheeler School Auditorium in West Concord and 600 at the Girl Scout House in Concord. Lollipops, ice cream, and staged chats with Santa followed, as part of Concord’s annual holiday program sponsored by the Concord Board of Trade. William J F. Kussin chaired the events, with Philip B. Dee providing piano music at West Concord as carols filled the room.

Concord Sets Warrant Closure and Town Meeting Dates

First Aid Course Opens Wednesday in Concord

Concord Chapter of the American Red Cross announces the advanced First Aid course. Instructor Mrs Rodney Pratt says the first class will be Wednesday January 3 at 7 p m. The initial meeting is to be held in the workshop of the old Concord High School building.

Concord fire crews from Central and West stations tackled a car fire at hospital corner on Tuesday evening. Firefighters found the Vermont car engine ablaze with no driver nearby as state and city police began ownership investigations.
