Tribute to memory of local airman WilIa Nicol
West Concord memorial services were held at West Concord Union Church for Flight Officer William Frederick Nicol RCAF 24 formerly of West Concord who was killed in action on his 24th mission over Nuremberg Germany on March 17 1945. The service was led by Rev Alfred Wheeler Stone and Rev Richard A Wolff with James J Mansfield American Legion members in attendance. Nicol son of Mr and Mrs William O Nicol now of Westwood and sister Joan Nicol survives. He was a Concord High School graduate class of 194? and Phi Beta Kappa member at college. His father is Salvation Army public relations head.

Engagement of Isabel Warren Renews Concord Ties to Pratt
Mr. and Mrs. William Warren of Concord announce the engagement of their daughter Isabel Chapman Warren to Herbert Gale Pratt II of Concord. Isabel is granddaughter of Mrs. J. Lawrence Maurait of Louis, Missouri and Dublin New Hampshire and a Radcliffe student. Pratt is Harvard College 1941 graduate and WWII veteran who served in China Burma India with the U S Army. Concord Woman 97 Dies. Longtime Librarian Known to Emerson
Funeral services were held last Thursday at Douglass chapel Lexington Center for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Fiercé 97 native of Concord who died Monday night December 17 at Lexington Home for Aged where she resided. She was widow of Willard Chase Pierce. they moved to East Lexington in 1881. Born July 17 1848 in Concord she was librarian at the Concord Library and claimed to have known Emerson Thoreau and the Alcotts. Interment was in Munroe Cemetery Lexington. She left no immediate relatives.

Sloan Is Discharged From Navy Service
Concord veteran Donald Sloan received his honorable discharge after nearly two years overseas in the Pacific theater. He is now at home with his wife Agnes Mullen and two sons in Concord. Sloan spent more than two years in the U.S. Navy and was formerly employed locally before enlisting.

Bowditch Dies While Visiting Son at Lake Forest
Concord notices funeral services for John Perry Bowditch 62 of 58 Main Street after a six week illness. Former Massachusetts Racing Commission steward and Framigham Selectman, he died in Illinois while visiting son Ebenezer Francis Bowditch headmaster at Lake Forest High School. He attended Milton Academy and Harvard University, worked in brokerage, served in World War I and II, and belonged to Somerset and Harvard clubs. He leaves wife Alice Bradford Bowditch and sons Ebenezer and John Bradford Bowditch.

Navy veteran Lieut Ferguson discharged at Boston center

Concord Veteran Whitney Promoted to Full Colonel
Otis M. Whitney of Concord has been promoted to full colonel in the U S Army after five years of service. A Harvard graduate and veteran of Guadalcanal with the 182nd Infantry, Whitney earned the Silver Star and other honors. He previously served as a military aide and is now retired at home with his wife, tied to a Boston law firm in civilian life.
