Christmas Pageants Brighten Local Church Services

Christmas Sunday activities filled Union and Maynard churches with pageants carols and special programming. The Union Congregational service featured The Star Divine, a Kings pageant and baptisms, while Maynard Methodist presented a three episode nativity with a cast of fifty and a 25 voice choir. A Christmas tree and eve carols drew crowds as celebrations extended into Christmas Eve shopping hours.

Telephone Co Starts Work in Acton Exchange

The executive committee of the Telephone Co authorized dollars 25,985 to place extensive underground and aerial cables and poles in the Acton exchange. The project covers 46 036 feet of aerial cables with 102 to 202 wires and 832 feet of underground cables with 102 to 202 wires, plus 137 poles.Removal will include 2720 feet of aerial cables, 22950 pounds of covered wire, 4350 pounds of iron wire and 193 poles. Upon completion, the company will fill standing orders for new service and changes to different grades of service, assuring longer term telecommunication development in Acton.

Funeral services held for Carleton Collier Butters in Concord

The funeral for Carleton Collier Butters of Concord was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Firet Parish Church vestry, with burial in Sleepy Hollow. Born August 8, 1877, in Concord, he moved to Boston decades ago, worked at Well, Grew & Co and later ran his own business in Tremont Building, Boston. He was Harvard 1899, never married, and survived by an aunt and a cousin. Concord schools closed for Christmas vacation, resuming January 5.

Two Showings Of Christmas Play In Concord High School

The Concord High School staged two performances of The Shepherd of the Hem in the new high school auditorium with matinee and evening shows. Miss Gertrude H. Rideout supervised the production with Miss Helen A. Reed as special coach. A long program documents a Christmas musical service led by Miss Marguerite L. Barnes with violinist Hope Wright. The hourlong pageants feature a Nativity story read by Mrs Charles Towle, tableaux, and songs from kindergarten and primary departments.
