Concord schools completed Gilmore oral reading test trials for grades six through eight. The test, designed to measure reading aloud and comprehension, is being standardized with norms to guide future use and can be provided free to schools during the program.
The Concord section notes Christmas carols by groups on Monday and a junior class homecoming dance planned for Wednesday. Draft Board quota is set for induction this month, with events at Monument and Co-Operative room. Community donors receive letters as the Citizens Committee appeals for fund support.
Firefighters were dispatched to a residential blaze at a home on Crescent street in the afternoon. The burner fire at the Sinclair property prompted Box 56 response by the yard crew and local authorities.

The lower grades of Peter Bulkeley School were moved over the weekend to Concord Elementary, located off Laurel and Stow streets. Twelve classes involving 283 pupils began classes Monday at 9 15 a m to 3 p m with Janeh Petiod at 12 10, and the cafeteria is expected to be ready though many younger pupils will bring lunches.
Concord officer seen taking permanent duties with the local police last week. He previously worked at Economy Market on Walden Street and now resides on Old Sudbury Road in Lincoln while seeking a Concord home for his family.
Members of the Helping Hand Society of the West Concord Union church held their annual family Christmas party at the chapel and parlors yesterday afternoon. The church invites all to the 8 oclock event tonight where Mrs Raymond Jeweton will present a playlet and Santa is expected.
Joseph Coyne son of Mr and Mrs John B Coyne of 239 Main Street has returned to work in Maryland after a brief stay with his parents.
All local schools including public will close tomorrow for the annual holiday vacation. Classes resume Wednesday January 2 1952 at regular hours.
Massachusetts health officials promote combination vaccines against diphtheria tetanus and whooping cough for infants and children. The plan outlines a primary series at 3 to 4 months, boosters at 1.5 years, 6 years, and 10 to 12 years with emphasis on early protection and safer moderation of disease risk.
Concord appoints John W. O Grady former Lawrence Central Catholic assistant coach at Lawrence and Concord Recreation Commission staff. He is son of Deputy Superintendent John J. O Grady Jr of the Massachusetts Reformatory and Mrs O Grady of West Concord.
Concord high boys Leo McKenna and Lyle Carlson, both backs, were selected on Sunday’s Boston American all scholastic football team at quarterback and halfback. Bruce Woodworth a husky tackle earned second team honors with several other local players getting honorable mentions.

West Concord Massachusetts John J Martin 36 Brockton was returned to Massachusetts Reformatory after almost a week at liberty claiming he went home for Christmas. Milton police captured him Tuesday night and he faces escape charges after preliminary questioning and grand jury referral.
Concord district court heard Huébnér a 39 year old Chicago salesman charged as hit and run driver after a December 7 accident on the Concord turnpike. Judge Northrup imposed 200 dollars total including 50 for endangering, 50 for leaving the scene, 100 for DUI with a three month suspended sentence on the personal injury leaving scene charge. Miss Hope Ham of Boston was a passenger in the other car and was treated at Emerson hospital.
The Board of Selectmen will not meet on Monday December 24 due to Christmas Eve. The meeting is moved to Wednesday December 26. There is no meeting on Monday December 31, and the next regular session is Monday January 7 1952.
Concord Rotary Club at Howard Johnsons with James Welch presenting Birds Eye View. Board of directors report and Christmas party discussed. October attendance reached 54.6 percent, third in district. Tonight at 8 o clock the Concord talk is reminded of a gigantic turkey whist party at the Veterans Building hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of James J Mansfield Post 158 A L. The public is invited and many fine holiday prizes will be offered.
An annual Sunday school party for church children will be held Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 5 in the church hall. Activities include games prizes gifts songs a showing of Christmas story pictures and motion pictures of the whole group.
The Concord DeMolay Chapter will convene Friday night at the Masonic Temple with James A Hart Jr serving as master councillor in charge.
West Concord churches announce Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. Our Lady Help of Christians to host two midnight Masses with music by Frances Dow and David Gallagher. St Bernard's to present solemn high mass with Miss Esther Costello directing. Evangelical Free Church to hold morning service with the Young People's Chorus and mixed quartet. Regular Tuesday masses listed elsewhere. Other churches schedule candlelightes, carol services, and parish plays led by various pastors and choirs.
Concord selectmen announce Harvard professor Charles R. Cherington of Westford Road is named to the planning board to replace Prof. George E. Bates who resigned after moving from town. The appointment follows Bates departure and reflects the town’s ongoing staffing changes.
