Mrs John G Morse hosted tea for her daughter Edin More at Ripley Hin Poul. James Mansfield Post American Lesson group elected officers at Veterans Hall. Chamberlin twins Elizabeth and Margaret, daughters of Dr Theodore Chamberlin, noted among 16 year old freshmen at Wellesley College. Low temperature of 6 degrees reported by Postmaster Fred A Town. Mrs Catherine Robb hosted a dance at Hotel Somerset Boston after her daughter’s wedding and four months abroad.
Hawthorne Chapter No. 48 of the Order of theEastern Star meets at the Odd Fellows Hall in Concord this evening with Worthy Matron Mrs Marie Hewitt presiding. Reports will be read and 1925 officers elected. Refreshments served by committee chaired by Mrs Gertrude Goddard.
Old Concord Chapter D A R holds a Saturday 2 45 PM meeting at the Chapter House. Mrs Augustus L Morse hosts and presides with Mrs Merse J Warren NH State Regent as speaker. Mrs Horton Edmands chairs music and refreshments follow socials hour.
Frank Johnson, a janitor at Middlesex School, died after an operation at Symmes Arlington Hospital. His funeral was held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery chapel with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Born in Sweden 61 years ago, he lived in the area for years and came from Pennsylvania to Concord to live with his brother in law Chas Miller.
Concord Grange 150 Pa held a well attended social at White's Hall on Tuesday December 2 led by lecturer Mrs HatTie L Clark. The next meeting on Tuesday December will feature the annual Christmas Barn.
The Board of Selectmen offer a reward of 1000 dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who attempted to burn a house on Hubbard Street recently.
Mr and Mrs Henry Martin Lane of 15 Central street Concord Junction celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. A community reception at West Concord Union Church drew guests from fourteen towns. The couple were married in North Abington on December 3 1874 by Rev Jesse Jones.
A Concord crowd packed Veterans Hall for the first annual minstrel show and revue by Co. H 182nd Infantry M N G. Directed by Dom F Keegan and son George Keegan of Somerville, the program featured front row girls and an array of soldiers in sketches, songs, and a grand finale.
Mr Lane, long time instructor at the Massachusetts Reformatory in Concord Junction, led the shoe department and headed it upon retirement. He earlier served in Worcester and Brockton and held positions with the West Concord Union Religious Society and Odd Fellows. He is survived by Misses Lila Smith and Frances.
Concord Council and Knights of Columbus met at Monument Hall with Grand Knight John B Lynch presiding. They scheduled Ladies Night for January 22 1925 and launched a district based membership drive led by Captain Michael J Dee Past Grand Knight Edward Flavin and Thomas Lawlor. Lecturer Edward F Loughlin organized an entertainment after the meeting featuring Mme Lena Damiano Mrs Elizabeth Averill O'Brien and Miss Mary L Vivran to great applause.
The Woman's Club staged three acts of Green Stockings at O. O. F. Hall on Friday and Saturday evenings. Mrs. Leola G Pettigrew led as Celia Faraday with professional grace, supported by a strong cast including Mrs. Josephine E Sebastian and H Benjamin Smith.
The Trinitarian Church fair ran Wednesday at Veterans' Hall under Women's Union leadership with Mrs. Franklin N Prescott as chair. A large crowd enjoyed food tables crafts and games while the Walden Pond Boys Club raised funds for the building fund.
John Hannula of 4 Awrriman court nearly died from monoxide poisoning while repairing his car in a garage near his home last week. He survived after treatment at Emerson Hospital and remains ill from the gas effects. Doctors warn of quick acting danger and urge opening garage doors during engine work.
George T. Walker of Concord Junction has been notified of promotion to Master Rank in the Curtis Salesmen program. He has sold Curtis publications three years and increased district sales over 200 percent. The Curtis Publishing Company aids Masters in obtaining desirable employment after school and places candidates in suitable roles, with Walker among successful local representatives and several current Masters now advancing within the company.
The Ukelele Club of the church drew the crowd with a funny act that brought down the house. Notable performances included Dorothy Whitney Clara Martinson Cornelia Martinson and Mildred Hansen on ukulele while Ada Chia-brandi Edith Peterson Helen Peterson Josephine Peterson Gladys Hansen Alice Fuller Anna Reilly Mabel Lachman and Mabel Olsen sang.
Dr Hooper notes Mr Hannula nearly died from monoxide gas exposure as he worked an engine in a garage with the engine running. Hannula urges extreme caution and open garages to prevent such poisonings while Hooper credits the engine stop for a narrow escape.
Mrs Hugo Kalander remains ill at home as she improves. Willis Lester, eight, is recovering at home after an appendicitis operation.
