Local Society Notes From Acton and Nearby Towns

South Acton and nearby households hosted guests this week. Mrs. C. M. Kimball welcomed Mrs. Harold E. McClure for a visit, while Isaac Bean of North Conway NH visited William S. Jones on Maple Street. Thanksgiving gatherings included J K Wetherbee Sophia Haynes and Mary Pratt at Frank Taylor’s on School Street. An art sale by Mrs. Walter M. French and Ruth on Main Street featured hand-painted china baskets and Christmas cards from 3 to 9 pm on December 8. Visitation also included Percy Jones of Westminister and Minnie Cole and daughter Alice of Shirley visiting Mrs. Ralph Jones on Maple Street.

Middlesex Football Names Parker Wise Captain For 1924

The Middlesex school football team elects Parker Stevens Wise of New York left halfback as captain for 1924. Wise starred in backfield this season. Lawrene Scovelle of Melrose is manager for next year. Letters are awarded to ten players including Capt. Harvey Thompson and three Englewood natives. five letter players will graduate.

Walden Street Auction Sale in Concord Mass 1923

Auctioneer advertises a Tuesday December 11 1923 sale at ten oclock am in the Walden Street auction room Concord Massachusetts. Maynard Reunion of St. Bridget Parish Draws Big Crowd

The Coronial Hall hosted the annual St. Bridget's parish reunion on Thanksgiving night attracting hundreds. Doors opened to long queues and a crowded auditorium gallery and entrance hall with dancing after the program. Father Crowley and assistants mingled with guests as Carmody Lamar Murray and Hilferty delivered strong entertainment. Ice cream cake and coffee were served by parish housewives, and many former parishioners returned for the event. Continued on page eight.

Maynard teller Garrick given indefinite sentence

John H Garrick 24 ex teller of Maynard Trust Co was sentenced in East Cambridge to an indeterminate term at the Van Cord Reformatory. The case followed a bank run after his disappearance and a $24000 bank shortage. Depositors urged clemency and probation, with restitution efforts totaling about 17100 from various sources. He proposed turning over equity and a 6000 life policy to cover the deficit and to resume weekly wage payments.

Concord Mct Mrs H W Tripp Hosts Thanksgiving Weekend

Mrs H W Tripp spent Thanksgiving and the weekend with her daughter Mrs Earl Prescott at her Groton home. Families from Watertown, Waverly, West Acton, and Concord gathered for celebrations. A son was born Saturday at the Detconess hospital. The Lyceum Course hosts Miss Dorothy Berry Carpenter for a Monday evening reading in Association hall, a sought after Concord appearance.

Concord PTA Plans Father Night Meeting in Batonhall

The Concord Parent-Teacher Association will observe Father Night at its next meeting on Monday December 17 in Batonhall. Dr James Chalmers principal of the Framingham Normal School will address the gathering on the New and Old in Education as part of a special drive for fathers.
