Change of School Menus Provides Choice for Concord Pupils
Concord public schools will offer two balanced lunch menus daily next fall, eliminating individual specialty items like soup and sandwiches. The shift supports federal lunch program goals and makes meals eligible for a 9 cent subsidy per meal, aiding rising costs. Under Eleanor Taylor, four lunchrooms now serve 1200 to 1600 pupils daily, about 75 percent enrollment, with Concord pioneering use of surplus USDA flour to bake bread and related products.
