Clarence David Cram a longtime West Acton resident and station agent at West Concord died August 14 at his Windsor Avenue home after months of ill health He was 69 He served with various local organizations and the Boston and Maine Railroad for fifty years Surviving are his wife Ada Jones son Lowell H Cram and daughter Bertha Cram Montague with grandchildren and other relatives Funeral services were held Sunday at Mt Hope Cemetery West Acton with Rev W J Torsleff officiating.
George Howes Jr of Butler Avenue won a bicycle in the Mini Han Pharmacy contest that closed Saturday. He gathered 80,009 votes, beating leaders Geumin Soomenes and Gescom Ner with about 48,000 votes.
James V. Smith of Waltham, a Democratic candidate for the state senate, is affiliated with the Waltham Council K of C and has ties to local institutions including high school and Boston University.
West Concord resident Mason and longtime Concord figure Ep. Sweet died at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Boston September 12 1871 he moved to Concord at age 11 and lived there about 54 years. A devoted Mason he belonged to Corinthian Lodge A M and Walden Royal Arch Chapter with a long church service conducted by Rev Alfred Wheeler Stone. Burial followed at Sleepy Hollow cemetery with Masonic rites performed by Ralph Hemenway Benjamin Clark Rosine Wand Werden and others.
The special meeting of Worthy Poor of South Acton approved the deed to about 16 acres of woodland adjoining Woodlawn Cemetery. It was donated by Mrs Sarah A Watson of Harvard, sister of Mrs Whitney, to the town. A small turnout heard from Selectman Ralph W. Piper and attorney Amos Taylor about the will and donor wishes.
Harold Priest, John Zamiewski, and Stanley Vodoklys fished at Lake Boone last night. Zamiewski yelled he had a bite and began to reel in. Vodoklys then cried we have and hauled in the catch. The fish appeared to have caught by two hooks and the three men argued over ownership before deciding to cook and share.
West Acton. George Roe, a barber, received the Purple Heart from the Adjutant General’s department of the War Office for meritorious service in the Argonne Forest in France during World War I, where he was wounded and earned a certificate signed by General John J. Pershing commending his bravery.
Thomas Usher resigned as a member of the Registrars after long service and injury in an automobile crash. Wi Coulter was named to fill the vacancy. Thirty three new voters joined the list during registrar sessions. Additional sessions for registration are scheduled Friday 4 to 5 p m and Tuesday August 26 from 7 to 8 p m. Party changes since last April 16 include eight Republicans and eight Democrats switching to no designation, plus two Republicans to Democrat and one Democrat to Republican. The Board remains Frank B. Sanderson John Brayden Michael Nee and William Coulter.
Acton town hosts Legion Fiesta with exhibits from Friday evening September 4 through Labor Day Monday September 7 at the H Cram Ed Center. Local groups coordinate displays and community activities during the four day event.
Members of the Maynard Ladies' Golf Club hosted an afternoon outing as guests of Mrs Herbert Martin and Mrs Frank Joseph Enneguess. After the round, the Leominster club ladies will join the Maynard group for tea.

About 50 delegates from Romania England Czechoslovakia Denmark Switzerland Holland and Hungary attended a conference of the London International Bureau at Star Island Portsmouth New Hampshire August 16 to 22. They stayed in Concord and Lincoln Tuesday night and were hosted by local Unitarians and Universalists. Mrs Charles G Edgarton chaired with Mrs Elmer L Joslin Mrs Alexander Peters and Miss Gr Alexander among those present.
A local resident has been named to the coaching staff and head of the physical department. Bill, a Maynard High School alumnus, earned letters in baseball football and basketball and maintained high academic standing. He attended Massachusetts State University where he lettered three years and ranked high academically joining two fraternities. After graduation he served as teacher and coach.
Maynard St Marys Polish Mutual Aid Society marks its 26th anniversary with a 10 30 AM solemn high mass at St Casimir Church and a noon parade followed by an outing banquet at the Vose Grounds. Leaders, officials, and Polish groups from several towns will participate in the celebration and address attendees.
Dr Clelland will start new duties at the Gammon School in Atlanta this fall. He and his family spent the summer with relatives in Platteburg Missouri and his former colleagues in Concord and West Concord send best wishes.
D Suahelieg, a Mohawk trader long active in Concord, opens a ranch at Jensen Farm to sell genuine Indian crafts. The venture aims to support makers and ease their hardships, with support from the Indian department in Washington and interest from Mr. Batchelder.
