Maynard notes list visits and guest stays including Miss Cecelia O Toole Mrs J E Powers and Miss Erline Sear of Roxbury. Local adoptions births baptisms and promotions noted among residents and service members including Private William Batsford Irving Ramsdell and John J Gallagher. The Finnish Workingmen Association held a Junior Athletic meet with entrants from multiple cities and towns.
Charles Warren of the P. H. DeLee drug store announces William H. Trumpett has been accepted by the U S Shipping Board for Merchant Marine Training Service. Eligible volunteers must be citizens aged between 1 and 30, enroll at Warren’s Maynard agency, are paid during training, and will not be called for military duty while in service.
Mrs Catherine Cook of Maple Street travels to Old Orchard Beach and Portland Maine for a week or ten days. She will visit her son Private Elmer Cook stationed at Fort Preble in Portland. Mrs Dockerty accompanies her.
Mrs. William Litchfield treasurer reports receipts this week totaling 15.31 from the Drawer-in and Spooler room employees of the Assabet mills and 50 from the Junior class of M. H. 8 proceeds of the Junior Prom.

J A Goding on annual vacation from C H Mead Co. Everett B Coolidge moves into vacated tenement. Irma Durkee at Lake Winnipesaukee camp life. Mr and Mrs R L Sheppard of Lowell welcome baby daughter at Corey hospital. Mr and Mrs H Benjamin Smith welcome baby daughter at Deaconess hospital Cord last week. Rey and Mrs L G Morris with two children camping at Fort Pond with George B Holton group.
Kennedy cut his leg with an eel at Hall Bros Co mill last week. Dr. Tasker treated the wound with a few stitches to close it.
Stanley Hall injured a finger at his father's mill while assisting with a boring machine on Friday. Dr. Christie dressed the wound.
North Acton The Sunside Farm Co of North Action has enlarged its factory and is rushing blueberries. Owing to demand the plant has not closed during the year past.
Hon Rolfie Bradbury and Mrs 8 D Smith just returned from a 200 mile day trip through Maine. In Woodstock they were hosted by Mr and Mrs Thomas Bradbury at the old Bradbury homestead on Spruce Mountain. The travelers enjoyed lunch by the roadside with scenic views from the mountain overlook.
Richard Welsh moved to Prov inc Towns. Miss Helen Bent visited Medfield relatives. Mr and Mrs Louis Perry spent Sunday at Nantasket. Mrs David Landin entertained her sister and family. Miss Gertrude Stone week with Walter Lawin Hyde Park. Grange hosts housekeepers night with hopes for good attendance. Unitarian pastor preached about being lifted up drawing all men. Mr and Mrs Millard Filmore and son Robert Gerry were guests of Frank Gerry. Mrs Alice Cox Phipps and North Easton kin visited Mrs S J White and others.
Saturday afternoon the Wayside Inn chapter DAR met at the church with good attendance. Hostesses were Miss Sarah Pratt Miss Inez Perry Miss Almira Clark Miss Ellen Clark and Mrs Lorilla Sanders. Punch cake and crackers were served. Miss Perry read an article on the origin of the DAR.
Mrs Emma Barker hosted a pleasant gathering at her home on April 2 with cousins Mrs Charles Nelson Mrs Charles Tenney and Mrs Euriah Tuttle and a friend Miss Bailey. They traveled by automobile from her Sterling home and shared a picnic lunch at noon.
Miss Phyllis Quirk of West Acton daughter of Thomas Quirk was struck by an automobile on Nason street in front of the W X Macurda store Friday evening. Two ribs were reported broken. The Actons on the M and H line stops nearby and traffic is congested during busy weeknights as pedestrians dodge vehicles between car and sidewalk.
Local items report Macone Bros. sold a Maxwell to Miss Conant and Martin Helsher bought a Maxwell truck at the same store. James Finigan and Daniel Hennesey left Concord fire dept duty, while James Cullinan is home from Camp Devens. New policeman Harry Patterson takes the job as Juction policeman J Kellier joins Lincoln. Transfers, vacations, travel by auto, and a bedford dance for Camp Devens boys are noted along with a baby birth, church pulpit duty, and diphtheria recovery of Gertrude Townsend.
A dancing party for Harvard Radio schoolboys took place in Bemis hall Lincoln Saturday night. The hall was decorated in red white and blue and many local young ladies attended. Refreshments of punch and cookies were served during the evening.
Announcement lists 45 members including Charles Fr Adams representing management Charles W Allen representing employer and James J Mara representing public. Board charged with aiding State directors in policy matters and in selecting community labor boards for Cord County.
Mrs Ida Murphy of Elm street returns from a two week vacation with relatives in Rockville. Mrs Albert Axford and daughter Mildred of Hillside street plan two weeks at Revere Beach. Alexander McDowell spent the weekend in Reading. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Jones of Lowell visited relatives here over the weekend. Private Albert Hodges of the Medical Corps at Fort Banks spent the weekend with his mother Ada Hodges. Helen Crowell of New Haven left for home after visiting Mr and Mrs George Olson. Emmanuel Taylor Everett Junior preached at Clinton Methodist Church. After services the party went to Leominster to visit. Rev Charles F Parsons preached at Westboro M E Church in exchange with Rev Mr Martin. Privates Albert Whalen and Thomas Smith have arrived overseas with the 76th Division. Mrs Edward Smith of Bridgeport Conn visits the Nagle sisters on Main Street.
Private John W. Taylor of the U S Marines reports from Chateau Thierry that his right arm injury will take months to heal. He says the arm is in similar condition, he is up with help, and can use all fingers, awaiting a pass to see Paris.
Union services of the Congregational and Methodist Episcopal churches will be held next Sunday at the Congregational church. Beginning September 1, and continuing until April 1 next year, union services will be held at the Congregational church with Rev. Charles F. Parsons pastor of the combined congregations.
Bedford residents Howard Davis of Boston spent the weekend with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Gugliette and family were weekend guests. Broadway Jones at Lexington park is popular. Mrs. Frank Davis of New York visited Mrs. George Davis. Miss Jee of Lexington visited Miss Sarah Walsh on Main St. A town party attended Mitzi in Head Over Heels at Tremont Theatre.
About 200 Camp Devens soldiers were entertained by Bedford townspeople on a Saturday evening. A public safety committee oversaw the event with local home guard escorts. The group paraded through Bedford center, heard a concert, danced at the town hall, and view the Revolutionary flag on display. Refreshments and a late collation followed at local churches.
Three Boston men were injured when the car they rode in left the main Bedford Concord road at a curve near the West Bedford bridge and tumbled down a steep embankment. The operator William A. Rin ter of 1164 Wagton street suffered a hand cut, John d gerton of 2826 Washington street sustained injuries to his left shoulder and right leg, and Edwin A. Paul of 8 Sheridan avenue Jamaica Plain injured his left leg.
Four year old Rowena Lowney of Maynard was struck and run over by an automobile owned and operated by Mrs. Anna Fuller of West Somerville on a Sunday afternoon. The injury occurred near 3 Harrison street.
Ethel Howard daughter of Mr and Mrs Allan Howard East sr enlisted as a Red Cross nurse for Naval Home Training service this week and expects to be called to active service next month. She is a Framingham hospital graduate and for three years has been assistant superintendent of nurses at Ware hospital.
Continued interest in the Tuesday evening prayer meeting. Rev. Elbridge C. Whiting of Sudbury will occupy the pulpit Sunday Aug 11. Many friends in the community welcome his return. Families travel notices: Elwyn Wright leaves for Orleans Vt after visiting Frank Wright. Mrs Ernest Green and children visit relatives in Barton Vt. Lauren Kingman family return from Augusta Me trip with excursions. Mrs W A Curley and children spend few days at Kennebunk Beach Me. A baby boy born to A Myette and wife at Deaconess. both mother and son well. Dr R N Woodworth will be at Richberg, Boston office in August. John H Adams takes a week off from store duties. James Nagle returns from Megansett Meganeet with Mrs Nagle. Mrs John Killoran visiting daughter at Peaks Island Me. Tracey Omar family and Misses Florence and Constance Mitchell visiting Thomas Connell. R J Stevenson on two weeks vacation from Reformatory duties. For sash a gasoline engine, pump, 60 barrel tank offered by Mrs Indiana Back Westvale Mass near slaughter house.
A report on the second annual Sheehan family reunion held at Jeremiah Sheehan's farm in Concord Junction during the week. Mrs Susie Sheehan and Julia Sheehan and family attended. Miss Julia Sheehan served as secretary of family records for the past year.
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Hilferty and son Richard, with John H. Lawton editor of the Burlington News, drove to Burlington Vermont and stayed a week as guests of the Lawtons. They toured Canada and spent time in Montreal with Mrs. John Lawton and Miss Margaret Fallon of Concord visiting the Lawtons.
Letters from overseas arrive in good numbers reporting Maynard soldiers still well. Private Joseph Kaler notes a five pound weight gain since joining the khaki.
