Stuart W. Cook, 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Cook of 12 Garland Road, has been commissioned a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U S Navy Reserve and is undergoing preliminary training at South Boston. After two months of instruction he will join inshore patrol. His brothers Whitney M Cook, missing since the battle of Manila, and G Gardner Cook, in the Officers Training Course, are also in naval service or training.
Sydney Durkee of West Acton returns from a year in Ireland and Scotland working on naval base projects. His arrival was a surprise as he traveled by secret convoy and found his wife and child visiting in Connecticut. He is the son of the Town Moderator and Mrs Albert P Durkee of North Acton.
Maynard resident Mill Weaver Tyrkko aged 31, a weaver at Amerikan Woolen Co., died at his home after years in Maynard and Townsend. He leaves a son Tauno Tyrkko and a daughter Mrs. Kriam Gilchrist. Funeral services were held at Fowler Funeral Home with Rev. George Kopotten officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Ruth Bradley of 6 Haynes Street, a Social Science teacher at Maynard High School for eight years, resigns her post. Her letter was sent to Superintendent Donald A. Leht this week. The School Committee will decide a replacement at a future meeting.

Concord’s Lincoln Mohawks travel to Windsor Vermont for a three game regional series with the Vermont state semi pro champions. Lineup features ex-Concord stars including catcher Jim Dudley and pitcher Warren Berg. Rudy Currier may accompany the team as state commissioner.
An exhibition of 32 scale model aircraft and numerous photographs is on display at the Concord Art Association, 15 Lexington Road. The free show runs daily except Mondays from 10 am to 1 pm and Sundays 2 pm to 6 pm, continuing through August 30. The 26th annual Sheehan reunion held Sunday at Acton Town Hall drew about 156 attendees, far short of the usual 300 to 400. New officers were elected led by President Mrs. Katherine Sheehan. prizes went to Timothy J. Sheehan and John Sheehan Jr.. a country team beat the city team in baseball. Dr. D J Mahony served as quiz master.
Peter John Mansfield of Charlestown about 54 was killed Saturday night at the Thoreau street depot between two cars as he ignored warnings to stay off the platform. The train dragged him, severing him. the death was ruled accidental after investigation. Mansfield’s body was sent to Charlestown and he was visiting his daughter in Concord.
Major Norman C. Spencer Jr., son of Dr. Norman Spencer of Lowell Road, was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Army Air Corps. At 29 he is among the youngest officers with such rank, having spent 14 months in Alaska and serving in the Aleutians during the early June Japanese attack.
Concord baseball league maintains a six game win streak as rest of first half schedule leads to rescheduled games. Monday results show Oaravi Len defeating the TDV entry 13 to 1 behind Ted McKenna. Tom Wesel pitched for the losers. Emer son playground doubleheader saw Herronville crush Military Police Middlesex Tactical School 10 to 1 behind Frank McPhilips. Sergeant Dudley and Private Rozanno pitched for the vanquished team. More games set for Thursday and Friday. first half slated to end August 12.
West Concord announces the engagement of Katherine Graham to Lieutenant Charles Herbert son of Mr and Mrs Howard Ryan of Bedford. Katherine is a graduate of Concord High School and employed at the State Exchange. Herbert has completed officer training at Fort Monmouth New Jersey where he was commissioned. No wedding date has been set.
The James J Mansfield A L Ban presents its final community band concert at the Monument bandstand this evening. The event follows a cancellation from last Friday and promises a new program to close the season.
At Concord Tuesday evening Monument Hall elected Rudolph W Curuty grand knight and installed him after T Francis Renn, due to Navy duty. Thomas J Burke moved to deputy grand knight, John G Coyne named warden. Other officers elected include James P Sheehan chancellor and Bernard A McKenna treasury.
A Fort Devens induction notice lists seven men from Concord and several others from nearby towns including Noble Loomer Jr and Wilfred Rodgers who have begun a 14 day duty period and will report back August 15. The bulletin names their addresses in Concord Arlington and Westvale and notes their induction from the town.
