Concord veteran J William Byron dies after brief illness
J William Byron 67 a Concord resident and veteran of the Spanish American War died last Saturday evening at Emerson Hospital after a brief illness. He served as postmaster in 1916 and was active in the Knights of Columbus Elks Holy Name Society and local veterans groups. Funeral services were held at St Bernard's Church with a firing squad from Troop D Massachusetts State Guard. He was survived by his widow Helen R Fitzpatrick Byron and a brother George A Byron with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs Estella Felton Leach 86 of 12 Laws Brook Road West Concord died Monday evening in a local rest home. She was born in Maine and widow of Harry Leach who died 16 years ago. Captain Pirnie, from Concord, received a top World War II award for extraordinary leadership. He led his battery through enemy territory without a compass or map, guiding troops 25 miles back to safety after their position was overrun. His father, Major in World War I, and his brother also serve in the military. Pirnie graduated from Harvard in 1941 and held ROTC and O.M.T.C. credentials.
