Concord Junction residents share vacations and returns from trips to New York City Long Island York Beach Me and Atlantic. The Boston Harness Factory closes for a vacation August 8. A newborn daughter arrives at Deaconess hospital and a baby dies later. Concord Junction also notes a competitive game with rivals.
Mr Leonard Rieley of Main St bought a Velle touring car. Miss Ellen Kelley of Crescent Ave takes a two week vacation. Locals attended the Lexington Concord contest in Lexingt on Sunday afternoon. Several attended a Nuttings Lake dance last Saturday. Johnny Wilson trains at Bedford Inn for a bout with Harry Greb early this month. Bedford Civic club ball nine heads to Groton next Sunday afternoon. Services at St Michaels church Friday at 6 30 AM. Several attended Lexington Theatre last Saturday evening. Mr John Blackburn of North Rd enjoys a vacation from Weatherall Shoe Co Boston.
Bedford town team traveled to Dorchester and battled St Williams A C to a 2 2 tie in the seventh inning. Hadley reached first with no outs while McMahon batted when rain stopped play. Battery was Dolan and Hadley for Bedford.
Bedford Civic club beat St Bridget’s Boys club 7 to 0 last Saturday afternoon. Bedford batteries were Leonard and Hadley while Lexington’s were Roach and Cassidy. umpires were Hartwell and McDonald.
Ranger A A V8 won 9 to 3 against Concord on Page field last Thursday evening. Bedford battery was Warner Case and Sullivan. The Rangers then beat Charles Town 5 to 3 Saturday afternoon in a one sided contest. Umpires were Bigg and Whitaker.
Concord residents announce summer trips and returns. Mrs Raymond Willard departs for Maine while Albert Neill buys a Dodge coupe. Richard Hartnett and Percy Foss vacation in Canada and Maine. Miss Gladys Keeney tours New Hampshire. McDonald and others are on annual vacations in Maine. Henry Joslin returns to Richardson's drug store after two weeks away. Mr and Mrs Davidson and the Farnum Smiths also enjoy August travels.
An Oriental parlor owner Yee Sing faces egg targets from local youths near a drug store. Yee Sing arrests two suspects, cleans his shop window, and insists the incident teaches a moral about respecting business owners.
During August the First Parish and Trinitarian churches will hold union services on Sunday mornings. Services are scheduled for August 7 and 14 at the First Parish church and August 21 and 28 at the Trinitarian church. Preachers are Dwight F. Mowery of Houston Maine on August 7, Chester A. Drummond of New Orleans Louisiana on August 14, J H Gaylord of Springs New York on August 21, and Gail Cleland of Littleton Massachusetts on August 28.
Miss Thelma Noyes drives a Ford runabout while Miss C Elizabeth Tuttle visits friends in Revere. Red Cross work moves from Acton to Serbia as Miss Marshall serves there. Miss Mary Coughlin returns from Asia Minor. Flower Mission resumes with flowers collected Friday for distribution Saturday in Boston.
Mary Adelaide Andrews Holden, born October 25, 1840 in Otisville Maine, died Thursday evening July 28 after two years of suffering. She taught school, married William S Holden in 1862, lived in New York, raised four children, moved to Norway then Acton. She supported family church work and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. Funeral was held Saturday at home with Rev Ralph Barker officiating. Interment at Oak Hill Otisville Maine, with family members attending.
The St. Bridget parish Garden Party drew record crowds on Thursday and Saturday evenings with about 3000 attendees each night. The event featured illuminated grounds, varied booths, entertainment on a built stage, and contributions from the Children of Mary, Holy Name Society, and parish groups, under a large organizing committee.
A gathering is set for Wednesday at Riverside hall to organize the Maynard Country Club. Over 100 people have signed up. attendees plus a guest are welcome to join at 8 p.m. The group plans a nine hole golf course on the Calvin Whitney farm.
A new organ was installed and played for the first time at Sunday morning service at George's Church. The organ chamber was rebuilt to accommodate the instrument and a formal dedication is planned soon. Extensive repairs and renovations were also completed in the church.
J S Hoar and men started a bungalow for Mrs Otis Mott last week. Miss Mabel Millis takes a two week vacation from the telephone exchange. Henry Hall painted a water tank for Hall Bros Co. Durkee family leaves for a auto trip to Vermont and Canada. Whitcomb brothers attend Bromfield school reunion at Harvard July 26. Goding on ten day vacation from C H Mead Co store. A H Perkins filling in at the store. Charles Kelley and family move from Marlboro to Thomas Downie’s house. Kelley now the local plumber near his shop. Allen handles work at the B A King house. Lowell Crain and Mrs Dickie and family head auto trip toward New Hampshire, Vermont, Canada. E L Hall and mother Susie Hall with Misses Fannie and Nellie Wetherbee leave for Five Islands Maine for two weeks.
