Mexican Foreign Minister Ezequiel Padilla, back from studies at the Sorbonne, advocates world cooperation and just resource allotment to prevent war. General Jarman reforms Eastern anti aircraft artillery and supply to canal defenses, earning admiration for accessibility and effectiveness.

Funeral services for Mrs Annie F Donovan Farrell 72 were held Wednesday from her home at 60 Belknap Street. A high mass of requiem was celebrated at St Bernard's Church at 9 a m, with burial in St Bernard's Cemetery.
The Concord track team led by star sprinter Bernie Megin aims for a second win of the season as Leominster visits Emerson Playground for the annual meet. Faculty athletic manager Frank J. Googins is coordinating the remaining schedule.

Concord authorities announce future blackouts with no advance warning. Chief Warden H. P. Larrabee outlines three air raid stages and blackout signals using street lights, air raid alarms, and fire whistles. Public halls must post air raid rules and blackout regulations and know their air raid wardens.
Concord Lions Club held its bi monthly gathering at Wrights Tavern with 35 attendees. Edwin F. Crosby led the program as Rothwell N. MacRae presided at the 16th charter anniversary and Arlington Lions received the bronze Traveling Leo bust for largest attendance and furthest distance. Concord plans to visit Arlington on May 4 to reclaim the award and permanent possession if they win.
Concord residents Patrolman Thomas Vincent Finan and his wife Maude of 6 Willow Street marked their 18th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. Married in Maynard on April 28, 1924, they have lived in Concord since. the Finans have two daughters, aged 14 and 10.
West Concord announces the wedding of Miss Mary Elsie King daughter of Mr and Mrs Miller King of Waltham to Louis Edward Halloran son of Mr and Mrs L B Halloran of 19 Maple Street West Concord. The ceremony occurred in Waltham with Morits officiating.
Chief George T Priest of the Maynard Fire Department is honored at a testimonial banquet at Russo's Restaurant before departing to Paterson New Jersey to lead fire protection at Curtis Wright Aeroplane Plants in that city and Caldwell. Fellow officials and citizens praised his nine year leadership modernizing the department and saving lives.
The Concord Selective Service Board covering Maynard and nearby communities issued notice that its next draft quotas will be drawn May 2 and May 4. Registered men with expired occupational deferments and those newly classified 1-A under updated physical standards are included. Publication of accepted names will follow final induction, with May 6 for May 2 entrants and May 8 for May 4 entrants.
Miss Charlotte Tolman of South Acton and Thomas E. Wetherbee of West Concord linked by engagement announced by Tolman family. The notice notes Wetherbee’s parents John and Mrs Wetherbee celebrated at their West Concord home on a 25th anniversary event. Charlotte Tolman attends Northeastern University after high school.
At the Acton Woman’s Clubhouse the Acton Men’s Club met Tuesday night and nominated officers for 1942 1943. The program featured Joseph Dee of Concord presenting moving pictures from his trip to California and Canada. Nominated for president is Arthur Freese with Dewey Boatman as vice president Everett Putnam as secretary and Clayton Steeves as treasurer.
At a joint meeting of the School Committee and the Board of Selectmen in Main Hall, Mrs. Richard F. Piper was elected to the School Committee to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Professor Coon. Mrs Piper previously taught in Portland Maine and is a Bouve School of Physical Education graduate. Her husband Richard F Piper chairs the Town Committee and they have three children.
Sudbury High School closing its dancing season with a Friday night dance in Town Hall. The program of modern dancing will be directed by Mrs. Dorothy Elderson, followed by general dancing until midnight. Music provided by Gardner Davig and Philip Geri of Marlboro.
Maynard resident Miss Winona Dimery daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Dimery 151 Waltham Street was crowned Junior Prom Queen at Brown University Friday. The ceremony was broadcast on Station WPRO and her photograph appeared in the Providence Journal the next morning. She is a former Maynard High School student.
The Acton High School Scholarship Fund announces its first scholarship for seniors planning to attend college, university, or technical school next fall. Applications up to $109 loan or scholarship are available in the high school office, due by May 11, with interviews before May 15 and final winner announced at graduation on June 12 in Blanchard Hall.
Concord announces rationing for sugar covering all retailers wholesalers institutions and industrial users. Distribution will be at High School Cafeteria Precinct 1 and Harvey Wheeler School Auditorium Precinct 2 on May 4 5 and 7 from 1 p m to 9 p m. J H P Larra bee administrator.
Mr and Mrs Frank Walker of West Concord explored the famous Endless Caverns at New Market Virginia during a motor trip through the Shenandoah Valley.

The wedding of Carolyn Josephine Ruggiero and Arthur James Patterson occurred April 19 at West Concord Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Rev Fr Shaughnessy officiated. the couple reside at 24 Damon Street and in Stow respectively.
Edward Holton James, 69, Concord lawyer and organizer of Yankee-American Action, is jailed in East Cambridge after being held on $10,000 bail by Judge Caiger on a charge of criminal libel against President Roosevelt. He acts as his own attorney, claiming probable cause and facing a May grand jury, amid a case tied to a handbill titled The War Freeman.
Mr. and Mrs. James L. McCarthy of 2144 Concord Street quietly marked their 56th wedding anniversary. Married April 24 1884 in Hudson by Rev Cusick they are long residents with three children Franklin Emmett and Julia King. Mrs Trainor of Acton is noted as former Mrs McCarthy.
A string of fires in Sudbury caused little property damage. One fire covered about an acre near North Sudbury by the Concord line. A dump blaze on Power House road followed by a fire at Wayside Inn School for Boys caused a roof hole with minimal money loss. The fire chief warns against careless matches and cigarettes.
Thirteen candidates received the third and fourth degrees at a Sudbury meeting Tuesday night. Deputy Clough of Lowell made an official inspection. Mrs. Ruth Scofield presided. The ladies degree team worked the third degree and regular officers the fourth. Westbrook selectees headed for the army may contact Mayor H Ordway Furbish for help with $21 monthly funds.
Mr. and Mrs. J. King of 69 Summer Street celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at noon at the Avdlon Social with about 290 guests. A turkey dinner was served and a large cake decorated the head table. Attendants included Ann Johnston and John King. the ceremony was at St. Bridget's Church with Rev. Walter Brown.
W Burton Harvey of the Acton Board announces R Mc Acton Ralph Hag in South Acton has been named as First Lieutenant and Commander of the 15th Minnesota Company succeeding Thomas who was called to active service.
Sudbury cadets, including Maxwell Field, Alabama, prepare for pre flight training with the Air Corps Replacement Jer program. Don ald Wesson Bowry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest N. Bowry of Kin Philip road, Sudbury, and Virginia M. Priest of 4 ham road, Sudbury, are noted among those involved in the pre flight program at Maxwell Field.
