About 90 attendees from over 30 towns joined a Friday night seminar in Concord hosted by Government groups and the University of Massachusetts. O'Hare Jr and O'Brien spoke on risks and responsibilities, with a sister seminar held simultaneously elsewhere in the area.
Concord churches plan special World Refugee Day observances on May 1 to highlight refugee plight and align with the Massachusetts Committee for Refugees. Concord selectmen lifted a ban on 80 pound German shepherd after a dog school diploma was presented. The action followed a February restraining order due to a neighbor complaint and a hearing with several residents in attendance.
Concord final plans detail a glee club concert Tuesday at 8 15 p m in Wells A Hall Memorial Auditorium. Lions Club sponsors the General Radio chorus with proceeds aiding high school projects. The D P U has petitioned the B and M Railroad to remove control gates at Sudbury road and Belknap street and install automatic devices. The current watchman in the tower would be discontinued. Concord selectmen will attend the hearing Monday May 2 at 10 am in Room 166 State House Boston.
The Concord Lions hosted a supper meeting at Howard Johnsons with T Frederick Brown and George W WilkIngton in charge and Robert L Carter presiding. Committees were assigned and officer nominations made. Frederick H Bubier won the door prize. Osman C Chaffee updated the pension plan for past presidents.
Concord board of selectmen Monday night granted renewals for licenses to operate on Sundays at several locations including Kennedy's 25 Thoreau street B M Jenney Station 30 Thoreau street J and J Service Center 10 Thoreau street Concord Filling Station Cambridge turnpike Burke's Gulf Station Concord turnpike Walden Breezes James J Sli man Walden street Concord Oil Company Inc Main street at Route 2 C D Smethurst 31 Sudbury road bowling alley L O Anderson and Son 30 Main street.
At a Concord Carlisle Regional School Committee meeting Ralph T. Haskell was re-elected chairman and William H. Shumway was re-elected vice-chairman. E Payson True was reappointed treasurer and Mrs Thomas W. McGrath was reappointed secretary. The group approved by laws for the advisory committee on adult education and named the instructional staff for the new high school.

A Concord High School note lists seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen who earned A grades or B grades totaling 20 points or more across subjects. The list names numerous students by full names and includes a brief observation about Armed Forces Day May 21 and interfaith pulpit exchanges following the day.
John C. Collins of 326 Main Street and assistant treasurer of Middlesex Institute for Savings was named to the Concord planning board by selectmen Monday. He fills Louis McMillen’s vacancy with a term to March 31, 1963. Collins is married to Joan Kelley and they have two children.
Acton A Billerica man Robert R DeFlorio 42 was arraigned in district court at Concord before Judge Pierre A Northrup and pled guilty to attempted larceny. He received a three month house of correction sentence suspended until April 29 1961 Patrolman John V Gregory picked up the defendant on River street South Acton April 15 at 215 p.m.
Tenure awarded to nine Concord teachers including Mrs Paul F Ahern Mrs Russell S Broad Jr and Mrs Thomas Prendergast Jr of Harvey Wheeler Miss Mary Jane McAuliffe and Mrs E Lawrence Spurr Jr of Willard Mrs Donald N McGregor of Thoreau Miss Susan M Rashkin of Ripley Paul A Ross of Junior High and Mrs Dale Stover of Alcott after three years of service. High school tenure decisions rest with the regional school committee.
A monster town wide waste paper collection is planned for Sunday May 1 at 12 30 p m sponsored by Our Lady Help of Christians and St Bernard's. Residents should bundle and place papers on the curb before the hour. Trucks and volunteers will handle pickups.
Voter turnout was about 15 percent with 893 ballots cast of 6,000 registered in Concord. GOP candidates led with 691 to 207 for Democrats. Nixon drew 426, Kennedy 117 in presidential preference, while Rockefeller and others also appeared. Local results include Carlisle and Bedford partial tallies with Nixon leading the GOP slate in several precincts.
The board of appeals grants the Lions Club permission for a circus at Rideout Playground in August with restrictions. Selectman Robert E. Sheehan is named general chairman of the project for the Lions, who will present Hunt Brothers. Full details to be announced.
Concord police investigate recurring chicken sightings and deaths in the Old Bedford road area. Officers catalogued nine dead leghorns, two dozen chicks with mixed ages, a duck dead after being alive, two game birds likely part ridge, and four live but bruised White pecan ducks, with no owners identified. Police seek public information.
Concord selectmen renewed licenses for Concord Bowlarama at 31 Sudbury Road, a tourist guide license for Prof. John H. Lawton, and two junk dealer licenses for Edward Rubin of Maynard and Melvin Gladstone of Billerica.
Chadwick's 581 leads Roy Papligs while Lincoln shows Nixon 133 Kennedy 23. A total of 253 ballots were cast in the Republican community.
