Mrs Doris L White of Lexington named the new nurse for the Concord Visiting Nurse Association succeeding Mrs Niki Aoyama. A graduate of Children's Hospital she holds a BS in public health nursing from Simmons. Her prior work includes Augusta Maine Hospital and Waltham Visiting Nurse Association over five years.
John F Donovan of Concord High School is named co chairman of the ninth annual Massachusetts high school speech contest to be held April 27 at Suffolk University Beacon Hill Boston. Suffolk University and the Massachusetts Secondary School Principals Association sponsor the event. Donovan will assist contest director Dean Joseph Strain as co chairman in staging the 1957 contest. More than ten students from 50 Massachusetts high schools will attend at Suffolk University on the site of Farnell Hall overlooking Boston Harbor where freedom of speech in America was cultivated.
West Concord Thoreau-Wheeler PTA meets tonight at 7 30 with a first grade operetta and pie sale at the new Thoreau school. After the program a faculty directed business meeting led by President Carl Sproul follows. Parents may attend without children. A May meeting will feature a physical education program.

Concord reports the major bids for a new West Concord fire pumper and four town vehicles. Mack Truck Company won the pumper at 17996.60 with 150 day delivery. Concord Town Manager Theodore M Nelson reports no bids awarded yet as selectmen plan to interview firms again on Monday. Low bid is 54.75 per meter from Mark Time Meters among seven bids, others range to 65.50. Deliveries in 30 days. installation expected by late May with parking space improvements.
George A. Coleman 42 of Walnut Street aided in freeing Charles A. Withrow 62 after he fell or jumped into the Charles River in Waltham. John Mahoney 19, also of Waltham, died after swimming to assist Withrow. Edwin Kenniston 33 helped pull Withrow to a catwalk before Coleman assisted. Withrow died at Waltham Hospital.
The society announces an opening of its museum on April 19 from 9 a m to 5 p m and will be open Sundays.
Concord Alcott parents meet at Alcott School to form a new committee. The group includes Mrs Noble Earl Mrs Andrew Root Mrs Roger Howard Mrs Hamilton Young J Wendell Warren and school staff. John C Palmer director of guidance Concord public schools speaks on discovering individual abilities and talent testing.
Concord hosts a Junior League of Boston fashion show and lunch on April 16 at Weston Golf Club. Models include Mrs Harold Cabot Jr and others. outfits from the Bargain Box on Newbury Street will be shown with commentary by Mrs Edward G. Iselin.
Concord police officers Charles F. Boardman and Thomas C. Graham depart for April training at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in Framingham. They join a list of graduates including Chief Robert E. Kelley and Lieut. Marshall J. Witherell, along with Patrolmen Dominic Pagano, James F. Hanley, and Martin S. (last name unfinished).

West Concord couple Mr and Mrs Krist Andersen attended a luncheon at Hotel Somerset Boston in celebration of International Harvesters Golden Jubilee. A closed circuit TV program on a fine foot screen was enjoyed by all.
Concord residents learn the Woman's Union of Trinitarian Congregational Church will host a food sale next Thursday featuring various specialties plus cakes and pies as part of their preparations.

The Concord police defeated the Reformatory team 307 to 1263 at the pistol range on Wednesday night. Dee led the losers with 285 points while police scorers included Martin Sauga 269 Costello 264 Alexander 252 Fan 275 and Rob ert B. th 24. Reformatory scorers were Dee 285 Miller 245 Frawley 250 Wever 221 French 262. The teams may rematch.
Robert D. Parks, chairman, urges Concord residents to purchase their seals on Saturday, the day before Palm Sunday and Easter Week, as the holiday nears.
Concord and Acton selectmen will shorten the April 19 Patriots Day program due to Good Friday. A color guard led by Marshal Michael B. Gormely Jr and the Concord School Band will assemble near North Bridge at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to positions for the traditional salute. The town will postpone the regular events to Saturday April 20 with a 1:30 p.m. gathering at Emerson Playground and a 2 p.m. track meet.
Funeral services were largely attended at West Concord Union Church for Frederick Nolan Jr. 22 off Har Prepac former Corps veteran who died in a Stow automobile accident Saturday night. Rev. Edwin B Nyren officiated and burial was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The town flag flew at half staff for the veteran who served three years and was discharged last December. Born in Concord he was a lifelong resident and a graduate of local schools. Surviving are his parents two sisters and one brother.
The Senior Youth Fellowship of Trinitarian Congregational Church will host a party at Lminster Boys Friday evening, with departures planned at 6 o'clock.
