Special preacher Rev William T Loring returns to Concord related church events and notes from Watertown West Concord fire, Shakespeare Memorial Theatre donation, and high school activities. Local crimes report three roofers charged with copper tank theft at Emerson School, fined for their roles in the act.
The Concord Musical Club met at Mrs. Samuel Hoar’s Great Meadow Road home. Performances included piano solos by Mrs. Gustav Breitzke and Mrs. Alfred M. Uhler, piano duets by Elizabeth Wood and Mrs. Samuel Merwin, a string trio with Marian Barker, Elizabeth Darling, and Westman, plus duets by Mrs. Seabury T. Short and Mrs. Ralph Hewitt and songs by Elsie Rose. Luncheon followed with hosts Mrs. Hoar and Mrs. Charles W. Cheney serving.
A 1775 Worcester printed narrative of the battles of Lexington and Concord, issued by the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts Bay, was bought by L C Harper for 535 dollars at a books sale by American Anderson Galleries.
Annursnac Grange No. 369 Patrons of Husbandry will convene Monday evening in Warnerhall West Concord. Patriotic Night features Worthy Master M Alexander as speaker with refreshments served by Daniel Sullivan George Hefty and Giuseppi Santora.
The town hosts the Letter Club of New England annual dog trials from Friday April 18 through April 19 with four stakes for different dog ages. Drawings occur January 17 at 8 pm at the Colonial Inn, judged by Frank R. Sweet and J. Frank Kiernan. Also reported is a grass fire in Concord extinguished by local firemen, and a land purchase on Bedford Street by Mr. Richard of Springfield.

Armstead B. Rood of Concord and the Harvard debating team beat the University of California in Paine Hall Cambridge last week on the topic Resolved that New England rather than California is the land of opportunity. The visitors aimed for humor while Harvard argued seriously and carried the audience.
The King's Daughters gathered yesterday afternoon at Mrs. Louis A Solier's Barrett's Mill Road home with Mrs. Solier and Mrs. Ph A Davis as hostesses for the event.
West Concord firefighters battling a brush fire at Powder Mill woods also responded to a garage fire on Old Hovard road. West Concord units, aided by Concord apparatus, quickly extinguished the blaze owned by Guy W. Bean with only slight damage.
Concord April 9 The Minute Man Junior Baseball League of junior high schools was organized for the third season by six towns Bedford Billerica Concord Lincoln Maynard and West Concord Harvey Wheeler school. Russell Dodge was reelected president and secretary. Schedule lists games from April 14 to May 26 with matchups among the six towns.
Concord High marked Freak Day on April 1 with a parade of seniors in varied costumes from many eras and walks of life. The event created a lively contrast with regular school attire and drew attention from the student body.
Dr and Mrs Randolph Campbell Hurd of Newburyport announce the betrothal of their daughter Helen Campbell Hurd to Mr Percy Brown of Cleveland formerly of Concord. Miss Hurd a Vassar and Longy graduate heads the music department at Hathaway Brown School for Girls in Cleveland. They will reside in Cleveland Heights after the wedding.
Henry M Whitney 75 died suddenly at his Concord home. He served 34 years with the Concord road department, 28 as superintendent, retired a year ago. Survived by wife, nine children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral today at his home with burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery.
Final sale at the New Idea Store in Maynard opens Thursday April 10. Prices cut in half as the store moves to clear remaining stock.
The Minute Man Forest Wardens Protective Association held a meeting at the Central Fire Station in Concord on Tuesday evening. Col. Robert R. Goodwin chaired the gathering and plans were discussed for mutual aid during large brush fires, with the next meeting slated for October. Attendees included H. O. Cook Massachusetts state forester M. C. Hutchins state forest warden John Crowe assistant state forest warden Wred Stone district forest warden John Wetherbee president of the association Silas Bean Concord Fire Department chief and M. H. Doherty Lincoln Fire Department chief. Supper was served.
The Concord High School Athletic Association announces William Rudd as football manager James C Christiansen as cross country manager Howard Heyliger as ice hockey manager and Margaret McGann as field hockey manager.
Concord Grange No 150 Patrons of Husbandry held a meeting at Ellis hall on Tuesday evening last week. Four candidates were conferred the first and second degrees. Jas Cullinane was elected assistant steward.
Augustine W. Macone and Glenwood Swett each broke 24 of 25 targets to tie for high guns at the Musketaqurd Sportsmen's Club open skeet shoot in West Concord. Lloyd Rennie followed with 23, and other scores included Percy Foss 22 and Dr W F Davis 22.
J Crayford led with 24 hits out of 25 at the Concord Rod and Gun skeet ground Virginia road Saturday. William J Bulger followed with 23, in a day when 51 strings were fired. Other scores included R Eldridge 22 C Bulger 22 Dr Johnson 21 and George Clark 21.
Miss Eleanor Poland of Roxboro Concord High School 1919 and Radcliffe 1923 earned a Brookings Institute fellowship. She will go to Washington to work on diplomatic history for her doctoral thesis.
