Washington May 9 The House adopted the conference report on a bill to base draft quotas on the number of new men in class one and approved eliminating small student exemptions. The Senate amendment on ministerial and medical exemptions was rejected 182 to 318. Several representatives defended or opposed the credits plan for voluntary enlistments and urged adherence to executive views.
Paris reports American troops continue to arrive on the front. Premier Clemenceau, via Marcel Hutin, brings back a record of confidence in the entente forces and their vitality from a two day front area visit.

Households should limit wheat products to 11/2 pounds weekly per person, with strict limits for eateries, retailers, bakers, and manufacturers, while substituting potatoes milk corn and oats.
Greenville South Carolina May Colonel Roberts chief of staff of the Eighty first division arrived at Camp Sevier from Camp Jackson. The transfer of the Eighty first division is expected to follow shortly. Lieutenant Leonard A Wood son of Major General Leonard reached Camp Sevier. Wood is intelligence officer of the Eighty first division.
Oyster Bay N Y May 9 Colonel Theodore Roosevelt will answer Postmaster General Burleson’s demand that he back up statements accusing favoritism in newspaper treatment under the espionage act. Roosevelt said his reply will be given tomorrow and will restate all he has said.
