Convict Escapes Train Near Johnson City
Friday afternoon Sheriff Williams was transporting an escaped convict on train No 3 toward Jonesboro. Four miles from Johnson City the prisoner asked for water and after the sheriff left to fetch it, the shackled man leapt from the moving train. The train stopped, but the convict vanished, leaving only fresh dirt at the landing site. Reports say he later returned to Johnson City seeking his bracelet removal and supper.
