Texas cities receive 57.6 million in September sales tax rebates

State Comptroller Bob Bullock reported about 880 Texas cities were mailed checks totaling 57.6 million for the September one percent city sales tax. Year to date rebates reached 263.6 million, up 14.7 percent from 229.7 million last year, signaling continued state economic vigor.

PP and Kick Registration Nears for Comanche Co

Nine days remain for youths in Comanche County to register for the Punt Pass and Kick event. Registration closes Friday October 7 at Clemons Motor Co. The competition is scheduled for Saturday October 8 at Indian Memorial Stadium with judging by Coach Fred West. Winners in each age group receive trophies. first-place winners advance to the San Angelo Zone Competition the next week at no cost.

Healthy Heart Seminar Set For De Leon

The Texas Agricultural Extension Service sponsors a Healthy Heart Seminar on Tuesday October 3 with two sessions in De Leon and Comanche. Entomologist Weighs Poor Peanut Crop Prospects

Comanche County entomologist David Moore says the peanut crop could be 25 to 50 percent below last year with current droughtlike conditions and high heat. He notes rainfall shortage, heat, low humidity, and corn borers cut yields on both irrigated and dryland peanuts. Gold Kist estimates early peanuts in the 50s to 60s grades, one load irrigated at 80 bushels per acre, and dryland yields from 10 to 35 bushels per acre.
