Staff Sergeant Hardie Jones son of Comanche City Secretary and Mrs. H R Jones is home after 27 months overseas in England and France. He served 35 months in the Army attached to the Eighth Army Air Force in the Ordnance Department. Previously a Chevrolet bookkeeper and later a Camp Bowie civil worker, he is on a 45 day furlough and may soon be discharged.

Three Automobiles Stolen From Square Here
Three cars were stolen from Comanche’s square Monday night, with two later found abandoned. A 1934 Ford Coupe owned by Vernon Gaines of Hasse was recovered near the Methodist Church after lights failed. A 1936 Ford Sedan owned by L A Easley of Comanche Route 3 was found abandoned in a ditch on the De Leon Gorman highway after being left with the key in it. A third 1936 Ford Sedan owned by O B Cleere of Comanche Route 3 remained missing as of Wednesday morning.

Sliger Delivers First Cotton Bale of Season Near Comanche
A. J. Sliger four miles east of Comanche produced the season's first bale of cotton on Monday at Eight's Gin. The bale weighed 1475 pounds in seed and 487 pounds lint, bought by the gin for $21.50 with a premium from the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cobb of Delano, California, visited Mrs. M. J. Sparks last week.

Former Gustine Man Awarded Bronze Star in Germany
Elthrice L. Huey, former Gustine resident, received the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in Germany on November 16 while serving with the 406 Infantry of the 102nd Ozark Division. The citation notes his actions under heavy artillery and mortar fire restored communications and aided his unit’s attack. Huey, 33, is the son of Leonard Huey of Ackerly. his brothers Sgt L V Huey Jr and Sgt Granville Huey also served, with Granville wounded in Belgium and hospitalized at Temple.

Mrs J L Smith Dies After Fifty Years of Marriage
Funeral services for Mrs J L Smith were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev E G Gregory and Rev T J Sparkman officiating. Interment followed at Mercer Gap Cemetery. Her husband Claude Armor Smith wrote a tribute describing a long, devoted marriage since their 1895 wedding in Texas, ending with her death.

Mrs Sallie Dean 61 died at home after an illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Indian Creek Church with a Pentecostal minister from Cisco in charge. Burial followed in Indian Creek Cemetery. Born Sallie Franklin in Indian Creek near Comanche March 7 1884 she married Felix Dean and they had a daughter Mrs Charlie Croker, a foster son Robert Ferguson, four grandchildren and several sisters and a brother.
