Farmers face losses from digging peanuts early due to dry weather and rising prices. Observations from Bibb County show early harvest yields up to 50 percent more nuts later, while vines dug too soon produce dry kernels. Buyers estimate 15 percent of crops lost to premature digging, urging growers to test their own fields to avoid waste.
Excerpted letter from Coleman resident relating a British officer’s account of German corpses used for alleged fat production and coffin reuse in occupied territories. The letter, dated August 10 and received September 7, quotes claims of mass grave handling, coffins emptied prior to shipment, and a grim practice described as a “fat factory.”
Local pride flows as Bowie selects five men for Muskeg school advanced study. D. S. Blue, a former Comanche, earns training in Grenadier work and will act as instructor at Camp Bowie on his return. Congratulations to Lieut Blue, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. K. Blue.

A. W. Wright of Newbury sold a 578 pound bale of cotton in Comanche for about 24 cents per pound, netting 165.30 after ginning and seed values, with the sale to Higginbotham Bros. & Co. The dealer notes a year with few bales but high prices. Burks Mercantile Co. advertises Nicaragua wheat.
Walter Hardin of near Beard Church found a seven inch long molar in a Comanche street scene. The tooth likely came from a prehistoric animal with a jaw near six feet long. Hardin found it in Salt Branch and plans further searches for the rest of the remains.
The Comanche Auxiliary expands into a county Red Cross Chapter with 500 members. Alma Neely elected president, G W Dingus secretary, Ann Palmer treasurer, Wm Reese vice president. Countywide work to be expanded under new structure.
The Comanche Cotton Oil Co is installing new machinery to upgrade the mill making it the most modern in the region. Workers have operated at the site for weeks replacing the old press room with up to date equipment to boost efficiency in cotton seed and peanut milling. The improvement signals industrial expansion for Comanche.
Mrs J W Reese states she has joined Slider and Lacy’s and invites friends to visit the store. She asks customers to call and share the news, promising to appreciate their trade whether they buy or not.

To the Public Miss Hester Fisher has resigned as sales lady with us and has accepted work in a bank Mrs J W Reese is now permanently with us and she will appreciate any of her friends calling to see her at any time.
Dr. P. G. Hayes returned from Fort Worth where he was examined and accepted into the army as a physician. He will serve in the reserve corps initially and may be called to regular service in about thirty days. Hayes is a leading local physician and is believed to be the first practicing doctor from the area to enlist. He will receive an appointment as First Lieutenant once conditions are met.
Four musical numbers and one lecture form this season's lyceum, with the first attraction set for October 16. Proceeds benefit school interests. plans to be announced next week.
Central Christian Church invites members to a Sunday program marking promotion of pupils with graded lessons. A large Orphan's Home Box at Roberson Sister's store seeks clothing and wearing apparel for orphans and the aged. Mrs. W B Sharp collects canned fruit for the orphans. Pastor Samuel H. Austin promises gospel messages and a warm welcome.
