Indians Travel to Goldthwaite for Friday Showdown

Comanche Indians head to Goldthwaite Friday night seeking their third win. The Eagles, led by quarterback Johnny Johnson and running back Reggie Robbins, show balanced attack after wins over San Saba and Hamilton. Comanche counters with star back Harry Dudley and a strong line as both teams heat up for district play ahead of Oct. 1.

Homecoming Planned for Hazel Dell State on Sundaw

Carl Miller and Wilmer Westfall head the Hazel Dell homecoming planning committee for Sundaw October 3 at the old Hazel Dell School site. Former students and teachers are expected, with a day of fellowship, barbecue, and attendees to provide trimmings. Hazel Dell is an early Comanche County settlement once a Western frontier trading center. The old schools were at three nearby sites before the turn of the century.

Weekend fish gather event as Lake Banes sprayed

Game Wardens will apply Rotenone to Lake Banes Saturday to drift fish to the surface. Adults pay over 800 dollars for chemicals with 10 prize categories for largest carp channel cat yellow cat and bass. Children under ten free and boats may enter Friday after cleaning begins.

Newburg Cemetery Work Day Planned for September 25

Newburg Cemetery association schedules a work day on Saturday September 25 with expected large attendance. A business meeting begins at 11 a.m. Volunteers are urged to bring hoes rakes and a basket lunch while bread drinks plates and napkins are supplied by the association.

Judge Denies Dt Motion For New Tax Trial

District Judge Byron McClellan denied last Friday a motion for a new trial in the 21 Comanche Independent School District taxpayers tax program case. McClellan had ruled for the district after a lengthy hearing. Attorneys for the district are C. O. McMillan, Stephenville. for the taxpayers L. B. Slagle and William Bell, Brownwood. The taxpayers plan to appeal to the 11th Court of Civil Appeals if denied. A separate suit against the district involving many protesters remains in the 52nd District Court docket with no action expected until October term.

Local School Tax Office Moves to New Central Site

Comanche Independent School District announces its Tax Office will open Monday September 27 at 501 E Central Avenue in the Heartland Building. Tax assessor-collector James Bachus says the office equipment and records will be moved this weekend from 214 W Grand to the new location.

Dickey Wins Football Contest

Four contestants matched all but one game in the Chief's football contest. Johnny Dickey of 107 N Ervin won five dollars by using the tie-break score. Second and third prizes go to Mrs P W Farley of Bastrop and Cecil Gene Spivey of Irving with a year’s Chesf subscription.

B Team and Junior Highers Set for Brownwood Games

Comanche schedules two matches with Brownwood Thursday. Coach Westmoreland plans a 5 00 PM B Team game in Brownwood while Coach David Smiths seventh and eighth graders host Brownwood at 5 30 PM. The Junior Highers won several earlier games.

Dairyman Dies After Monday Bull Attack in Dublin Area

Emmett S Bradley 67 of Dublin died at Stephenville hospital after a bull attack at his Shiloh home Monday. A Border Collie halted the bull, Lisso said. Bradley, a longtime Erath County dairy farmer and stock showman, married Lula Huckabeee in 1933 and survived by his wife. Funeral was held at Hartwell Memorial Chapel with burial in Barbee Cemetery.

Dublin Fall Fair Opens with Parade and Queen Contest

The 17th annual Dublin Fall Fair begins with a parade and dairy and livestock judging. A four day event includes a midway, carnival, and a Wednesday candidate presentation for queen. The fair queen will be crowned Thursday night, with Old Fiddler's contest Friday at 7 30 p.m. It is raining at press time with 1 5 inches rainfall reported.
