Birth Statistics For Comanche County 1937
In 1937 Comanche County recorded 217 live births with 214 white and 3 Mexican infants. One hundred were male and 117 female. Physicians attended 215 births. two were unattended. Six stillbirths produced a 2.8 per 100 live birth rate. Eight infants died before age one, a 36.9 per 1000 rate, with no maternal deaths. Texas statewide saw 698 maternal deaths with broader child fatalities. Dr Geo W Cox notes many deaths could have been avoided.

D A Brown Dies At His Home Near Harmony
Comanche County farmer D A Brown died at his Harmony home Tuesday after a brief illness following a heart attack. Funeral services were held at White Point with Rev H J Sanders and Rev Chester Wilkerson. He was born November 16 1869 in McNairy County Lee and married Celia B Smith in 1890. Survived by wife three sons a daughter and two grandchildren.

36th Division To Hold Reunion In Fort Worth
Fort Worth hosts the 1938 Reunion of the 36th Division on October 8 and 9 with headquarters at the Texas Hotel. The event marks the 20th anniversary of the division’s World War I baptism of fire near Blanc Mont. About 1,000 veterans are expected, with the Ladies Auxiliary prepared to entertain.

Mrs. D. P. Walling Dies Here Suddenly
Mrs. D. P. Walling a Comanche resident for 53 years died at her home Friday September 9 after a half day illness. Funeral services were held at the local Baptist Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. She was born August 23, 1885 in Comanche, daughter of R. M. Garner, former Postmaster. Survived by husband D. P. Walling, three daughters, two brothers, and several relatives.

Girl Victim Of Car Accident Buried Friday
Funeral rites for Virginia Ann Moore five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs O O Moore were held at Stag Creek. Virginia died from injuries after a Henderson Texas crash when a truck hit the car in which she rode with her father and grandfather T E Wilson. She lived several hours after the accident. Virginia is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs W C Moore and Mr and Mrs T E Wilson of Sidney.

Newly Married Pair Injured In Wreck
Mr and Mrs John W Steele were married in Comanche Sunday morning and four hours later wrecked near San Angelo. Mrs Steele suffered a fractured skull several broken ribs and numerous cuts and bruises. She was taken to Shannon Hospital San Angelo and expected to recover. Mr Steele had only minor injuries. The couple planned to move to Levelland.

Miss Za Nette Lane, secretary at the Denny Cotton Yard and County Treasurer-Elect, notes J. A. Pyburn yielded 11 735 pounds of peanuts on 6 1/2 acres one mile east of Soda Springs. The crop averaged over 60 bushels per acre with gross income exceeding 40 dollars per acre, excluding hay.

Pecan Company Dispatches Largest Single Shipment
The Durham Pecan and Peanut Company sent its largest shipment on Saturday September 10, a 31 500 pound carload of shelled pecans to the Queen Anne Candy Company in Hammond Indiana. Walter Durham manager notes it may be the biggest shelled pecan export from Central or North Texas. Texas remains a leading pecan producer and Comanche County a top peanut region in the state while Georgia Alabama and North Carolina outproduced Texas in peanuts last season.

A new contract for Highway 36 in Hamilton County covers .8 miles of grading drainage structures and double asphalt surface at a cost of 109238 dollars. Dean Ward of San Antonio won the award announced in Austin on September 5. The project runs from Wallace Creek to the Coryell County line and includes a 120 foot bridge across Wallace Creek and culverts, with completion time of at least 175 days.
