Farmers and ranchers in Comanche County will vote September 25 at the ASC Office in Comanche for county committeemen including a chairman and a vice chairman plus two alternates. Gustine High School under Mrs. Cloda Baggett purchases a 327 volume circulating library from Mrs. Louise Huntington, owner of Unusual Gift Shop. The library, originally in the Hirginbotham Building and later moved to the square, will enhance the school collection with high class titles.
Comanche Junior High Papooses open the 1957 season hosting the Brady Pups next Tuesday night under new coach Mayo. A squad of fifty to sixty hopefuls has been practicing this week as the Indian coaching staff for the senior team leads them in workouts.

The 75 piece Comanche High School band under T. R. Atwood will perform for the first home appearance Friday at the Comanche Stephenville game. After opening at McCamey and Dublin Rodeo, the ensemble features drum major Polly McCullough student director Betty Durham and a full officer corps led by Keith Atwood and Austin Anderson in management.
A special meeting of the Comanche Dairy Association is set for Tuesday night at 7 30 at the Comanche County Courthouse. All members are urged to attend as officers for the coming year will be elected.
Effie Mason Reeves 94 of Comanche County died at home near Comanche September 6 1957 after years of poor health. Funeral services September 16 at Comanche Funeral Chapel with Rev J D Smoot Rev R W Walker and Rev S J Isham officiating. Pallbearers were W B Barrett Pat Sullivan Tom Coleman Ira Clemons Armstrong Cox and Delmar McDaniel. Survivors include five children George Reeves Jack K Reeves Vasco Lee Reeves E T Howell and Rex Kitchens, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Born May 13 1863 in Baltimore Maryland, she joined the Methodist Church early and married W L Reeves Jan 31 1888.

Mr and Mrs Cecil Jack Cox and their children spent the weekend visiting the parents Mr and Mrs A P Cox in Fort Worth.
Work began this week on a modern 10 classroom high school building and auditorium in Sidney. The brick veneer structure, costing about 42000, will be funded by a 58000 bond approved by voters 5 to 1. An auditorium for 350 seats and a flood-disaster grant totaling 13295 supplement federal aid. The project is led by Kenneth Sparks, with superintendent Ray Pruitt noting no classes in the old high school and that 145 students are enrolled for the new term.
Three Comanche County students at Texas A&M College were named distinguished students for the spring semester 1957. The honorees include John Beaty of Comanche and Bill, both registered for at least 15 hours with a 2.25 or higher grade ratio and no grade below C.

Mrs. Oscar Sloan arrived back in Comanche following a ten day vacation with Mrs. Tom Herring of Laredo. The pair visited Monterrey Mexico for two days and a night and toured sights including the Horse Tail Falls and the Chininque Mountains.
The Gustine Tigers aim for their second win Friday night when they host Turnersville in a six-man non-conference game. Gustine opened the 1957 season with a 26 to 6 defeat of Mus tangs of Brookesmith.
Rufus W. McNutt a 57 year old Comanche resident died in a Brownwood hospital on September 7. Funeral services were held September 9 at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. S. J. Isham in charge. He was survived by his wife two sons John and Melvin and two daughters Wanda Sue and Mrs. Harold Northcutt. He was born December 28 1900 in Comanche County and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church Centerville.
The Sunday singing event at First Freewill Baptist Church is led by Les Dillard of Comanche. The public is invited to attend this regular afternoon program.
The Comanche Indians meet 3A rival Stephenville Yellowjackets Friday night at Indian Memorial Stadium in the season opener. Kickoff is at 8 pm with large local and regional crowds expected.
Sidney Eagles, defending six man district champions, aim to rebound after a 40 19 defeat by Walnut Springs. They travel to Brookesmith where the Mustangs lost 26 6 to Gustine in their opener.

Donald Hall, bank bookkeeper, won the Comanche Chief's first 1957 football contest. He correctly forecast 9 of 10 games, with a near score spread in the Comanche McCamey game earning him $5. Second place went to Eugene Perkins with a subscription extension, while Mrs. Donnie Hicks claimed third.
