Indians Bearcats Clash Here Friday

Comanche hosts rival De Leon in the Comanche County Championship clash kickoff at 8:00. The Indians and Bearcats have a long series dating to 1915 with Comanche leading 29 to 19 and four ties. De Leon features strong defense and minus yardage in scrimmages while Comanche shows balanced attack led by Armstrong Waggoner and Holland with several top linemen and a large crowd expected.

Jr. Dairy Show Here Tuesday

The Comanche County Live stock Association schedules the Comanche County Junior Dairy Show at the Livestock Center on September 17. Heifers must be in place by 9:00 a.m. Judging starts at 10:00 a.m. Animals will be released at noon and sold by sealed bids. 4-H and FFA members with dairy heifers should submit entry cards by Monday, September 16.

Adult Education Class To Meet For GED Diploma

The adult education program invites adults who did not finish high school to attend starting September 16 at 7 30 p.m. at the high school. The class offers a Texas Education Agency diploma upon completion of the GED tests and meets weekly on a user chosen night. Chester Giesecke, a high school teacher, will teach with no tuition, funded by TEA. call the high school for details.

Ed Green the Snipe Keeps Going Despite Hip Surgeries

Ed Green, 76, a Comanche native known as a former railroad section hand nicknamed a snipe, has undergone hip replacements in 1957 and 1974 yet stays active. He rotates gardening with neighbor Hill Cox, shares harvests, and reflects on a long career from Frisco and Santa Fe railroads to a cafe dishwasher post. He and Audie Green, married in 1924, raised four children and remain proud of their community and family.

Comanche School Board Purchases 40 Acres For High School Site

In regular session on Monday night the Comanche School Board voted to buy 40 acres from Claude Prater for a proposed high school site. The land fronts Cedar Street with Oakwood Cemetery to the west and Johnson Street to the east, for a price of 100000 dollars. The board consulted a Texas Education Architect and considered site utilities and location before selecting the site. Superintendent H R Jefferies said the next step is tours of recently built high schools to guide facility plans. Funding comes from the accrued balance in the prior year school fund for the one fourth down payment with three equal installments remaining.
