Soldiers traveling between Brownwood and Fort Worth use the Comanche jail as a temporary hostel. The jail provides clean, airy private rooms with enclosed facilities run by two jailmistresses. Beds are scarce but soldiers appreciate the rest, with occasional drunks as fellow guests and meals described as good.

Purple Heart Awarded to Pfc Roger C Shockley in France
Pfc. Roger C. Shockley son of W. E. Shockley Comanche Route 3 recently received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained July 7 near St Lo France. He was struck in the calf and ankle by a German rifle bullet and has returned to active duty in France. His sister Mrs Carl Miller Lamkin received the bullet, and his brother Sgt W J Shockley serves in France with a field artillery unit. W. E. Shockley also received the Purple Heart this week.
