Pat M. Neff, after polls closed in Waco on August 28, releases a statement admitting an age record error. He explains he believed birth year 1872 until 1918 when his mother cited 1871, and notes 1919 poll tax cards listed 47, with the 47 on campaign cards printed before his 48th birthday.
The Transcontinental Oil Co. relocates its headquarters from Comanche to Fort Worth after operating in Sipe Springs and other fields. Officials say the move will enable better handling of extensive transactions and express good wishes for continued success in the new home.
The many friends of John Carroll will be glad to learn that he is back again in his old position in Paria Smiths drug store.
The Doerr-Wittliff Agency in Central Texas held a monthly meeting in Comanche County to report $808000 in two weeks, with $234000 from the local office. The Brownwood agency was narrowly defeated in a friendly contest. H A Wittliff of Dallas spoke at the event, and attendees enjoyed a City Cafe banquet. The agency plans to expand presence and promote Southland Life Insurance, pledging upright business and social engagement for employees and customers.
Sipe Springs Tex Aug 30 The Atlantic Oil Refining Company Fields No 1 produced 1053 barrels after a Saturday night shot. Initial lower sand output was weak but upper sand dry. a 600 quart charge in the Caddo lime between 2380 and 2475 feet yielded the large flow. The well near Puett and northwest of Sipe Springs signals a drilling revolution.
The Saturday election returns show Pat M. Neff of Waco winning the Democratic nomination for Texas governor in a low turnout, farmers in fields delaying votes, Bailey’s campaign heated by war record and residence questions, and Republicans plus American Party arguing about the result. Neff leads by about 100000, with Davidson and Pierson winning other races and several county and district results noted.
President Wilson endorses the majority report of the anthracite coal commission. Wages rise 20 percent for contract miners, 17 percent for company men and similar boosts for other labor groups. Back pay totals about 18 million dollars, with an $85 million annual impact for 175000 miners.
In Nashville on August 31 the Tennessee House rejected the Senate’s ratification of the Federal woman suffrage amendment by 47 to 24 with 20 abstentions. After the vote, Miss Josephine A. Person sent a message to President Wilson saying his sponsorship was not enough to carry suffrage in Tennessee.
Resolutions adopted at Murfreesboro rally demand Governor Roberts give up the Democratic nomination over his support for ratifying the woman suffrage amendment. The protest ties to Tennessee legislature actions and calls for a state convention in Nashville on September 15 to select another nominee.

The Migrabe of Love was staged last Friday at the High School Auditorium to a packed house and repeated Monday due to strong demand. Mrs Godbold, author and supervisor, donated royalties to the Legion and praised local talent. Total receipts from two performances were 349.50. Revival services at the Methodist Tabernacle show growing participation with 600-seat capacity filled. 40 conversions and numerous reconsecrations reported.
The first 1920 cotton bale brought to Comanche was sold at 28 cents per pound to Otis Guthrie by J. B. Schlee of Priddy. The 562 pound bale was ginned at Comanche Farmers Gin. Gin manager E B Rauhut secured a $50 bonus from local businessmen, raising the total to 207.36 dollars excluding seed.
Secretary Colby signed the proclamation today confirming ratification of the suffrage amendment. The Tennessee ratification certificate arrived at 8 AM at Colby’s home and was later announced by Colby at his office. Suffrage workers from the National Woman’s Party, led by Alice Paul, were disappointed not to witness the signing.
Philadelphia soprano Mrs Leighton Edelen Cook will sing at the High School Auditorium Friday evening September 17 under the Methodist church Young People's department. The Philadelphia artist has performed in major U S centers and received praise from the Washington Post for arias from Macbeth Le Cid Butterfly and modern songs. Hostesses Mrs Wm Dingua Mrs I M Cochran and Mrs L Odell will assist during her Comanche visit.
No sermon will be preached in the church this morning. A Sunday service is planned at 11:60 with preaching shifted or canceled due to events. Parishioners are advised to check for updates on next services.
