District Court opened Monday with Judge R B Cross of Gatesville presiding. District Attorney H William Allen is hospital bound after appendicitis and complications but expected to recover. Hamilton County officials note the grand jury and bailiffs including Earl Morris foreman and Oswell Brightman secretary. Denny Urges Comanche County to Save Tin Cans for War

Comanche County Chairman C F Denny announces a salvage drive to conserve scrap for the war effort. He quotes Lewis Huff of the Texas Salvage Committee urging every home to save tin and steel, cut ends, wash, remove labels, and flatten cans to preserve metal for victory. Lt. Sidney Schools Reopen After Harvest Closure

Sidney Public Schools will reopen Monday October 26 after a three week shutdown to aid peanut and crop harvest. Superintendent Jim Cooper says operations will continue with no further delays this school year.

Final Date For Drivers Licenses November 1

State Police Director Homer Garrison warns that November 1 is the deadline for renewing old two part licenses. About 20,000 Texans per day are applying as the state rush continues. If renewals arrive after midnight November 1, holders must take an exam. The division issues 10,000 renewals daily and processing for late applications may take three to four weeks.

Frank Dunn Chief pressman dies after heart ailment

Franklin Newton Dunn 41, longtime Comanche Chief pressman, died at home from a heart attack that began August 2. He lived in Comanche, worked at The Chief since 1936, and was survived by wife Elsie Menefee Dunn and two children Jane Elizabeth and Billy Frank. Funeral services were held at the Comanche Funeral Home with local pastors officiating.
