Hearing in the election contest over the Democratic nominee for county judge has been set for Wednesday October 17 at 9 a.m. District Judge Eidson announced after in chambers proceedings. H L Stewart appeals the certification of W T House by the County Executive Committee.
Comanche County Farm Bureau votes twenty five dollars in prize money for 4-H Club girls. R W Fielder hands funds to J A Barton who will award. Awards based on record books for truck crops, chickens, turkeys, field crops, and livestock.
Sam White and Jack McGuire bought the Knox Cafe at Brady last Monday and will assume control next Monday. The Knox Cafe is a leading local establishment and the new owners plan to move their families to Brady once homes are found.
Mrs C F Denny and her daughter Miss Mamie returned Thursday from Germany where Mamie had been a patient in a sanitarium for an appendicitis operation.
Cotton receipts report 1626 bales ginned at three Comanche guns Thursday at 10 a m. Cotton Yard receipts total 1974 bales versus 2140 on the same date in 1927 and 1994 on the 1926 date. Year totals indicate 3823 bales in 1927 and 4436 in 1926.
Alvin Mitchell of Hillsboro has been called to serve full time as minister at the Church of Christ. He accepted the position after preaching both morning and evening services last Sunday. Mitchell recently graduated from Abilene Christian College with an outstanding record.
An intoxicated man’s arrest Saturday prompted a search warrant. Sheriff J. T. Gilbreath and deputies Pate and Little raided a residence in East Comanche at 8 p m, seizing 35 bottles of alleged iced beer and home brew equipment. Tom Sutton was jailed on a $500 bond awaiting grand jury action.
A local ad notes double bed size blankets offered in pairs for just 1.50 dollars at Slider and Lacy. The offer emphasizes affordability and store branding.
District Court opens Monday with a light civil docket and nine divorce cases filed, while criminal charges on file exceed the grand jury list. Judge Eidson Court Reporter Tom Robinson and District Attorney Jesse Shipman arrive Sunday for the spring term.

A 24 mile route south of Comanche began operating Tuesday under contract by Jim Moody. About 150 gallons of milk were collected on the inaugural run with night and morning milk loaded at staging points. Farmers bring milk daily. the truck returns each morning around 6 o clock. Credits go to Bryan Boykin for launching the route and Garland Tunnel for guidance. The route collects sweet milk and cream plus sour cream as well.
Visitors from Davis Mountain and West Texas at a Comanche Highway conference praised local fruit. Judge R. A. Luker displayed Durham Bro. Orchard apples to prove county growers can supply a market for peaches melons plums and persimmons. The group saw growth potential and noted a Clyde Texas example on the Bankhead Highway.
Rev. B A Copass of Southwestern Baptist Seminary Fort Worth will speak on the Court House lawn in Comanche Saturday at 2 30 p m in support of Hoover for President.
Antl Al Smith lists speaking engagements next week in De Leon Energy Newbury Sipe Springs and Duster with times 7 30 each night and 7 50 on Friday. J M Haynes is the chairman.
Hon Sam Rayburn of Bonham spoke Friday evening to a crowded District Court Room. He condemned the Republican eight years as the most corrupt in history and warned against bolting the Democratic ticket. He praised Governor Al Smith as New York State’s greatest executive.
Ex-congressman Jas. Young of Kaufman will address Dublin voters at 7 30 p m Saturday Oct 18 in support of the Democratic nominees for President and Vice President. He also plans a Stephenville appearance at 3 p m the same day.
An informal banquet was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Callaway at the Colonial Hotel. The event was attended by a number of the couple's friends and held at a designated hour.
Two cars of peanuts were bought in Comanche on Thursday with morning receipts at half a car. C F Denny the Public Weigher predicts that fair weather will continue and next week average receipts will reach a car per day.
A joint band concert by the Comanche and De Leon bands will be driven on the courthouse lawn at 4 p m Sunday October 14. Dr J H Lewis left Monday for Galveston to attend the I O O F Encampment as the official representative of Comanche Lodge.
The Durham Pecan Shelling Plant, led by manager W. M. Durham, will open Monday for its third season. It provides work for 30 to 40 people and aims to shell about 100000 pounds of pecans this season as the crop is reported excellent. Local pecans have begun selling at 10 cents per pound with purchases already made.
A capacity crowd attended the Brunks Comedians opening at Co manche Monday night with every seat filled before the program. Laugh That Off was the opening play and drew strong response. Additional performances are scheduled each evening with a Saturday matinee.
A unanimous vote sets Tuesday November 20 for a 50000 bond election to fund paving of four main Comanche streets covering about 30 blocks. All qualified voters may participate, with Judge R A Luker noting 66 signed the petition. He expects wider support, citing progress seen in nearby towns. The tax increase would be 15 cents per hundred, about $3 yearly for the average property owner.

Mr and Mrs Arch Adams of Jacksonville were Comanche visitors Monday en route to Sipe Springs. They visited Mrs Adams parents Mr and Mrs P E Wilson.
Comanche High School Indians won their conference opener in hot conditions scoring 18 points while holding Desdemona Parkers scoreless. Key plays featured Meyers intercepting a pass and Dodson a 50 yard TD dash after returning a kickoff.
