Comanche County Fair Opens With Parade and Race Feats
The Comanche County Fair opened with a large parade led by Mayor James Ryland Eanes and secretary Davis Doyle. Charley Boyd drove the Hambobe Special in the big flivver race, with Pat Tepin Stacey Elms and Higginbotham Bros. & Co. completing top spots. Wednesday featured School Children Day with free passes and goat roping, rodeo stunts, and a student performers program at dusk. Pioneer Day on Thursday honored long-time residents with free admission for seniors and a county charter anniversary parade. Colonel Alvin Owsley of Dallas gave a patriotic address as the day’s highlight.

Prize Winners of Parade Dazzle County Fair Crowd
The parade on opening day of the County Fair far exceeded expectations in length beauty and cleverness. Barry Bros won first in the business group with a snow capped mountain themed large sedan. Second prize went to Rettig and Gibbs with a cherub ridden corner display. Johnson's Floral Park took third for a leafy floral car. Pearl West won first among individuals with an American Lemon float. E G Wells earned second with a taxidermy float and Camp Fire Girls earned third for a clear decorated camp scene.

Gustine Community Fair Showcases Wide Range Of Awards
The Gustine Community Fair on Friday October 1 drew a large crowd and featured numerous exhibits across Prepared Foods poultry crops and ladies department with top prizes awarded to many residents. Directors Meet to Solicit Chamber Secretaries
At the Chamber of Commerce directors meeting last Friday evening the group decided to retain the committee tasked with finding a suitable paid secretary. Hillhouse Acquitted After Three-Day Trial
J. L. Hillhouse was found not guilty at Hamilton after a three day trial that began Monday October 4. The defendant, who shot J. M. Kennedy last June, claimed self defense as Kennedy died from his wounds. Callaway and Callaway represented Hillhouse while Arthur Edson aided District Attorney Shipman in the prosecution.

Contested County Clerk Race Heads to District Court
By an 18 to 7 vote the Democratic Executive Committee failed to approve a subcommittee report and ordered certification of Miss Coan by County Clerk. Mr. Slaughter filed notice of appeal with County Chairman N A Palmer, sending the contest to the District Court opening October 18.
