Regular city meeting November 24 ordered a January 6 election on 70000 water bonds at 6 percent and 85000 gas bonds at 5 percent. Water bonds would fund a reservoir near Comanche. gas bonds plan for a future gas line with a town pipeline and rights of way.
The Lions Club will hold a regular meeting and luncheon next Monday evening December 1 at 6 15. Due to circumstances a rise in attendance is hoped as important matters are to come before the club.
A District Court session lists numerous cases disposed or continued. Notables include perjury and embezzlement actions, custody rulings, divorce decrees, receivership appointments, and judgments by default or continued matters, with several cases postponed or remanded for further proceedings.
The Commnehe high school glee club under Miss Mary Mer Win will present the operetta Pinafore in the high school auditorium Thursday night December 18. The production titled The Lass That Loved a Sailor features the students performing in period style for the community audience.
At Sidney on Wednesday a test was organized to evaluate four cotton seed varieties on the same plot near Stag Creek. Four varieties will be distributed to committees, with results later compared to county agent records to identify the best performer.
Peanuts have been selling in Comanche at 1.40 per bushel this week. Receipts have been heavy recently, running at around a car a day.
The Common Taw by Fred Haves & Company at the high school auditorium drew a crowd and pleased all. A three year old, Baby Peddy, performed a vaudeville stunt while the high school orchestra provided music. Proceeds benefited the orchestra.
Tennes will be in Comanche tomorrow to take orders for the Peerless Wire Fence and can be found at the Comanche National Bank during the day. The ad notes a shipment from Memphis Tennessee to West Texas in September, with Mr Janes as the former agent. Tanes is state agent for this fencing and a Comanche resident, here only tomorrow to collect orders.
Jokkie Wo Burks is to depart for Austin after being appointed chief clerk of the tax redemption department in the comptroller's office.
Barry Gres of Comanche buys the Rising Star ice and cold storage plant from Mae Anderson. The new firm plans improvements including cold storage rooms and a potential raw-system water test. They own plants at Comanche De Leon Gorman and Rising Star and may add more.
Mrs Mollie M Godbold of Tallus arrives in Comanche and selects the cast for her new play Help Yourself to be staged soon by the Methodist Sunday school Young People department. Daily rehearsals continue with a comedy and musical numbers. casting features Casterin Prunella Johnsen and Alimony Brown as negro mummies, with Lionel Slider and Percy Howland blocked for those roles.
Local surgeons in Comanche report several successful operations over the past two weeks. Frank Huse recovered from a gangrenous appendix while Miss Texas Coach, Earl Carnes, Mrs Paris Smith, and Miss Margaret Banes all convalesced after appendicitis or related procedures. Mrs W A Hellums traveled from between Sidney and May for facial tumor surgery with Miss Womack and Mrs Lila Jones assisting.
Tom S Moore plans to move from Commehe to Dallas on January first to oversee all electrical work for Magnolia Petroleum Company. Lovise Burks announces the opening of her Gift Shop on December 15 in the Tate building on the east side of the square.
A local speaker declares Roads, Water and Gas as priorities and urges immediate progress. He emphasizes building rather than booming, notes citizens are waking up in good humor, and calls everyone to prepare for action.
The American Legion Band announces a concert on the courthouse lawn Sunday afternoon at 3 oclock weather permitting. The band notes this may be the last outdoor concert of the season and invites people from nearby towns to attend.
The Woodmen Circle of Gustine hosted a business and social session with initiations for six candidates Fay Allen Fay Wyatt Evelyn Elms Cecil Huey Veda Boyd and Lottie Beverett. Attendees from Gustine included Mrs J L Wyatt and several Misses and Mrss from the area plus visitors from Groves Rising Star Mercer Gap Hasse and others.
J. A. Rock has leased from Wmn. Reese the two story rock building west of the square on South Main Street. He plans to install a filling station and equip a tourist park there.
Ernest H Couch swapped his farm five and a half miles northwest of Comanche for a Hamilton county property near Hico through real estate broker J H Craig of Hamilton. Knight will move to the Comanche tract, while Couch relocates to the Hamilton farm after the exchange is finalized.
Farmers around Sidney Gap and Hasse outline a year plan to plant ten acre blocks in one cotton variety to test seed performance. Twenty to twenty five farmers will plant identical varieties and gin at the same time to keep the crop segregation. The effort aims to identify best seed for future seasons and includes tests in several county sections.
County Superintendent HW L Gantz reports several rural schools held Education Week with special programs. Lions Club of Comanche aided in teaching social unity and school spirit, stressing giving over getting. Schools listed include Hasse Newburg Mountain View Hebron Brysonville Cotton Grove Fleming Energy and speakers such as W T L Rowland Sam Chatham DPD K Doyle M J Sullivan and Rev G F Hendersonite.
The 1925 automobile license plates have arrived at the tax office and will be issued starting December 1. Passenger plates range 130601 to 133600 maroon with white figures and Texas before the number. commercial plates start 14551 with yellow and black. Motorists must register in December. old cars require engine and old license numbers, new cars need engine number only, trucks require a public weighers receipt showing current weight. Visit early to avoid the rush.
M Coleman and daughter Miss Thelena were badly bruised when their Ford coupe overturned on a highway fourteen miles from Ballinger on the way from Lamesa to Comanche. Thelma suffered the more severe injuries. Mr Starks of Brownwood escaped unhurt. They were rushed to Ballinger hospital and later went to Lamesa and Cosmanche for Thanksgiving.
Beattie road improvement plans progress with W R Slider stating the committee will hold a meeting soon. He notes contact from road residents and broad interest in harmony and cooperation for the project.
County Agent Barton reports strong farmer interest in growing watermelons for market near Comanche. A melon meeting may be held soon after discussions of C. M. Winstead's recent article in the Chief.
N. U. Payne of the Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association reports a fine gathering at Alexander Erath County last week. banker Mr. Luten presided and J. M. Kayser, district man, spoke. Payne believes half the local cotton will ship through the association next year.
W. J. Wilkins of John Tarleton College Stephenville opens a Friday night address with J. T. Davis dean. The Parent Teachers Association hosts a program while the music expression departments present. Wilson and Willow Branch meetings await a report from the Chief.
