Comanche County residents may meet Senator John Tower on Tuesday November 29 to discuss Texas issues over a coffee at the TP&L Hospitality Room from 9 to 10 a.m. Tower serves on key Senate committees and has influenced defense and energy legislation.
Comptroller Bob Bullock said Texans may have the biggest Christmas shopping spree if sales stay brisk. City sales tax collections are up 22 percent to date compared with last year, signaling growing confidence in the Texas economy.
Twenty one merchants will open December 5 from 5 to 8 p m for Shoppers Night in Comanche with a merchandise or gift certificate drawing after 8 p m Santa Claus will visit the square with candy and cameras ready. Chamber of Commerce sponsors a chili supper at the old Spa building 210 North Austin Street with tickets 2 for adults and 1 for children under 12.
Comanche County joins the West Central Texas Council of Governments Title VII Nutrition Program for Aging Citizens. The plan funds nutritious meals in a group setting three days weekly at the Senior Citizens building in Comanche and De Leon to reduce isolation and provide supportive services. The program aims to start by November 28 1977.
Peace officers and Comanche school authorities probe vandalism at the new Comanche High School building discovered Saturday November 12. Two wall sections were blacked with vulgar lettering requiring sand blasting. Sheriff Garman and Chief Anders report continued efforts to catch the painters as volunteers fund a reward for conviction.
Comanche Public School students and others observe a long weekend holiday. Most Comanche businesses and government offices close Thursday with the courthouse, except the sheriff, also closed Friday. Post Office, City Hall, banks, and most businesses stay open Friday.
A $268 000 state highway project will finance reconstruction of a 4.1 mile portion of FM 2823 in Comanche County. Engineered by Glenn G. Trover, the work will grade lay a new base and surface and erect structures along the roadway from 3.3 miles east of FM 1702 southeast 10 Hamilton County line. Bids are due December 8.
