State court dispositions and sentences in May proceedings

A May 21 burglary case against Alex Barnes resulted in a two year term after a guilty plea. Harriet Brightman, 91, of 3009 Avenue D, recalls moving to Goliad County in 1854 from Northern Mississippi as wild days with Comanches. She lived through Civil War years apart from her husband Lyman Brightman, planting crops while he fought. She believes secession was unwarranted and slavery could have ended without bloodshed.

During the week 82 bales were ginned at the three Comanche guns bringing the weekly total to 2681. Weighed at the Comanche Cotton Yard 242 bales this week, giving a running total of 812 bales.

Fritts Request Delays Trial Again in Hamilton Murder Case

Defense motions delay opening of the Bill Fritts murder trial in Anson with Judge Bruce W. Bryant granting the continuance to January 16. Fritts mother, a material witness, remains gravely ill as witnesses are called and a special venire is present. Nearby, two Rochester brothers and defense witnesses were arrested for attempting to scale a jail wall during the proceedings, charged with aiding an escape and liquor transport.

Sunday Blaze Destroys Home Near Comanche

Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the residence of J. P. King two miles north of Comanche on the De Leon Highway Sunday afternoon at 4 o clock. Practically all household goods and preserved foods were lost. No insurance. Mrs King discovered the blaze upon returning from feeding the chickens. The King family were away at the time as neighbors rushed to aid but could not save the structure.

County growers heighten interest in Comanche turkey show

Plans for Comanche's first annual turkey show are complete under J A Barton who will run the event. The show opens Saturday December 1 in the play and Lacy building with directors Tom Pate H J R Gille Mrs T N Burton and others assisting. Coops furnished free no entry fee with prizes of one dollar for first place ribbons for second and third in multiple classes.

Camp Fire Girls Plan Cabin at Lake Banes

The Camp Fire Girls plan a permanent cabin at Lake Banes after the City Council approved a log cabin project on the bluff overlook. The local Boy Scouts will assist with construction, and leader Miss Sarah Thomas says residents will be invited to contribute one log each to build the house.

Beattie Eyes Record Thanksgiving Crowd for All Day Program
